Why is my dog suddenly aggressive, crying in pain, and won't eat?

Please have him assessed by a vet urgently, it sounds like he is extremely painful and this may be due to a severe injury, spinal pain, infection or hip dysplasia and treatment will depend on the underlying cause

He may have some spinal cord problems, especially with the cervical spinal cord, such as a slipped disk or arthritic changes that press on nerves and are painful. Ob is apparently very much in pain and therefore should be seen by a veterinarian tonight. The vet will do a thorough physical exam, palpate the spine to find where the pain is coming from, and also do a neurological exam and then x-rays. He will then discuss the exam findings with you and possible treatment. Your dog will get pain medicine and other medications as necessary. Dogs with pain often do not eat, and eating also may be painful as he has to chew, open his mouth and move the jaws. This may be more painful than lapping up water.

Any dog that all of a sudden acts aggressive it is usually due to some type of pain in the body. If he is not eating he may have an intestinal obstruction and that is painful. I suggest you get him to a vet for an exam.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I am sorry that Beau isn't feeling well. Crying intermittently with no external injuries can be caused by a number of factors. If he is reluctant to walk or limping, then either a soft tissue injury in a joint/fracture/ or torn ligament is possible, however this you would expect to see some limping. Puppies can also get 'growing pains' and conditions of their joints, which affect all of their joints equally, so they are just reluctant to move. This can be incredibly painful and requires strong pain medication. The other common cause of crying out can be gastric pain. This can be caused by Beau getting into something he shouldn't have (bones, garbage, raw food, socks, underwear, etc) and his abdomen being very sorry. Usually with this you will see a reluctance to eat, possibly vomiting/diarrhea, and sometimes pain when you push on his abdomen. If this is the case I strongly suggest to stop the Deramaxx (hard on the gut, especially so young), and to have him re-checked by your vet and x-rays performed. An ultrasound may also be needed to make sure he doesn't have a peritonitis (infection in his abdominal cavity). He could also have a gastritis from worms, so making sure he is up to date on his worming is needed. A fever can also cause animals to feel unwell, so a full physical exam including his temperature is important. I would strongly suggest a re-visit with your vet, and they will likely need to do more tests, like an x-ray as mentioned, or if no answer is found there, or if Beau has a fever some bloodwork may be needed. This sounds very peculiar especially in such a young pup. I would be worried that he has a fever, and it would be important to check. If so, I would be suspicious of polyarthritis due to sepsis, lyme disease or other tick born diseases. Common conditions I see in young pups are pancreatitis, gastrointestinal parasites, and gastroenteritis. A good physical exam would be helpful. A painful abdomen, a positive fecal exam etc would help to narrow down what is going on.

It sounds like he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection (Lyme disease, etc.), immune mediated polyarthritis, panosteitis , etc. Your vet can run lab-work and take an x-ray to help diagnose. You could try to find a mobile vet to come to your house or call your vet and see if he/she could prescribe a sedative to make the visit easier. You definitely want to make the experience positive to try and change his aggressive behavior. He will need medical care throughout his life and it makes it very difficult for both the dog and vet. I understand this is making you nervous, I would be a bit worried as well. I'd recommend having a lameness exam done as well as a physical exam. The vet may want to do blood work, a urinalysis, and x-rays. I hope this helps.
