What to do if my dog has a string in her nose and trouble breathing?

This is very concerning, and Luna could have injured her nose, may have a foreign body in there, a severe upper respiratory infection, a fungal infection, or a growth causing this bleeding. You need to take her into a vet now to have this diagnosed and treated.

Im so sorry Luna isnt feeling well. Given her age and breed, the most likely culprit is allergies or an upper respiratory infection. The nose can be so inflamed from the aforementioned problems, it can start to bleed. Other unlikely causes are a foreign material stuck in the nose, high blood pressure, or (least likely) a mass in the nose. You should have her seem for the appropriate treatment. Hope this helps!

She could have a grass seed stuck in her nose, or it may have been stuck and moved on but caused irritation. The nose is biggeer than you think so often the endoscope is needed to have a good look and temive anything stuck. I would make her a appointment at the vet as it will likely come to that. If discharge is clear it couldnt have been stuck long as usually foreign mayerial causes an infection. If you want to try something first yku could get a syringe of saline (boil kettle, let cool add a little salt) and gently flush her nose. Do it slowly so that she does not choke on the water, she will swallow it. She may not tolerate this and if not do not persist as you could hurt her. If she lets you this may dislodge what is stuck or give the cavity a good rinse. If this doesnt resolve the issue it is time for the vet.

This could be a sign of many things including an infectious diseases (Kennel cough), a foxtail or grass awn caught in the throat or it could be a normal reverse sneeze. Your veterinarian will be able to examine Luna's throat to see if there is something stuck in there or test her for an infection. She will also be able to prescribe appropriate treatment or medications.

If she is having a hard time breathing, it could be either heart disease, primary lung disease (airway disoders, asthma, infection/pneumonia, etc.). She could also be breathing up from pain, especially if she has GI disease, this can make them have abnormal breathing as well. I would be fairly worried and would recommend bringing her to a vet right away. I would bring her to an emergency clinic if your vet isn't open. Best of luck with Luna, I hope she feels better soon!

It could be that Luna is suffering from a respiratory infection. If her symptoms continue over the next 24-48 hours, then I would have her seen by a vet. The vet can diagnose if she does have a respiratory infection, and can prescribe medications to help treat her symptoms.

Hello, sorry to hear about Luna. Most dogs with upper respiratory infections are treated with antibiotics as these tend to be bacterial in origin. If her signs are worsening then she may need to see a veterinarian to obtain medications for these. Unlike humans, dogs do not typically get influenza or the flu, and it they do, it tends to be much more severe than it is in humans. In the interim, you can try to run a hot shower and have Luna sit in the bathroom to see if this helps decongest her. Otherwise, make an appointment with your veterinarian and have her evaluated for an upper respiratory infection. Other causes of nasal congestion/coughing and nose discharge may include kennel cough, tooth root abscess, or even some form of mass in her nose, especially in an 11 year old dog.
