My dog stopped vomiting, but still eats garbage. Is this a good thing?

Vomiting can happen for a multitude of reasons. Eating a new item, overindulgence, or eating something disagreeable in the yard are all possible. If he is back to normal today with good appetite, energy, and no more vomiting I would just continue to monitor him.

If your dog has not been vomiting for five days this is great news! I would continue to give the medication that your veterinarian prescribed until it is gone. If you notice the symptoms are returning and I would call the vet to ask about an antinausea medication, or see if you need to bring Cash in for a recheck.

It is a good that he ate this morning but If he vomits today or seems lethargic than he should be examined by your vet. If he doesn't vomit today than he probably just had an upset stomach from something he ate, he may have ate too fast, or possibly been affected by the heat.

It could be that Dakota has a GI illness or may have eaten something that upset her stomach. It's good that she has stopped vomiting and is drinking water, but I imagine her stomach is still a little sensitive from the vomiting. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps her. I would feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Buckis! Just be sure he is burping and not non-productively retching (trying to vomit but not bringing anything up). Non productively retching with a swollen belly and/or pacing is an emergency. If it is just occasional burping and he is resting comfortably then just continue to monitor him and follow your Vets recommendations. I hope this helps and I wish Buckis a speedy recovery!

Hello, sorry to hear about Shadow. Its likely that he has a dietary indiscretion from getting into the garbage. These are often self limiting and resolve with a bland diet and occasionally necessitates anti-nausea medications and fluids. However, if he ingested any foreign material from the garbage that could be entrapped within his GI tract and causing an obstruction, then this may require further assessment by a veterinarian. If Shadow has persistent vomiting (more than 3 times per day), lethargy, decreased appetite, painful abdomen, and occasionally diarrhea, then have him evaluated promptly by a veterinarian then. In the interim you may offer a bland diet of plan white rice, skinless and boneless boiled chicken and low fat cottage cheese for 5 days. Hope this helps and best of luck.
