My dog's stool looks better after medication. Should I be concerned?

Hello, sorry to hear about Teddy. It sounds like he is trending in the right direction. Dogs with diarrhea will continue to have signs for up to 5 days after starting the medication. As long as he is improving this should be ok. The dark urine may be associated with the GI bleeding. If his signs worsen or if his signs persist longer than 5 days, then there could be something else going on (pancreatitis, liver disease, or kidney disease) and he should be re-evaluated immediately. Continue the bland diet for another 3 days then transition him to his regular diet. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The signs seems settling so I would not be extremely concerned at this stage. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Yes, I think the stool looks pretty normal considering the history. I would not be overly worried. If you can get a probiotic made for dogs in your area then I would suggest you start using that. It helps to balance the normal bacteria in the intestinal tract. If you can't find one made for dogs then you can use a human product or you can use yogurt - must be plain, no flavor, no sweeteners. I don't see anything overly concerning in the lab results you posted.

I am glad honey is feeling better. It looks like honeys poop is solid and is no longer having diarrhea. It is hard to tell in the pictures but there might be a little mucous. I would make sure a fecal exam has been completed to make sure coco does not have parasites.

I'm so glad that Tinny Bubbles is starting to feel better and not having any more vomiting or diarrhea. Often after a dog has had diarrhea, it will take a while for their stool to build up again, so they often won't have any stool for up to 48 hours once they have been treated. If Tinny Bubbles is straining to defecate, I would contact your veterinarian. Scourvet has a number of ingredients in it to resolve diarrhea, so be sure to continue to give it as directed by your veterinarian to make sure she doesn't have any more problems. Hi and thanks for posting! From the pictures, the stools appears to be somewhat firm, formed, but perhaps a little on the softer side which can be normal if this is his usual #2. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic which can cause softer or looser stools to form. if you are worried, you can always bring in a sample to your veterinarian for closer inspection.

I'm concerned about this stool. Dark tarry stool like this can be a sign of stomach or intestinal bleeding. The bleeding could be from medication, parasites, a gastric ulcer or cancer. I'm glad Truman is feeling better but I recommend a veterinary exam soon. They will run a blood panel to check for anemia, perhaps check for intestinal parasites, and perhaps due some X-rays.
