Is my dog's poop normal after deworming and previous soft stools?

Hello. In the short term, such as a day or two after worming, the stool can become soft. Nothing to worry about as long as Luna is happy, playful & eating well. There is always some mucus in stool. It aids in defecation. An increased amount can be due to some inflammation in the intestine. If she had intestinal parasites and was recently treated, this could be the cause. If she is behaving normally, you can monitor her at home. Consider a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until the stool is normal then transition slowly to her regular diet. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Motaz! It isn't uncommon for diarrhea to occur after deworming. Also the worms can cause diarrhea. I like that you started a probiotic. I would also start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If the diarrhea continues through the weekend I recommend you have tour Vet do an exam Monday and get medications. I wish you and Motaz the nest!

If it contains blood or becomes more watery then I would have Cookie assessed, but otherwise I would see if it firms up in a couple days. In regards to the eye. If the eye doesn't look significantly better now than it did 3 days ago then I would have it rechecked with your vet. Eyes either get better quickly, or get much worse quickly. The discharge that you have shown could be normal, or could be a sign of a perforation. I recommend a recheck as soon as possible. Best of luck with Cookie!

That insect is nothing related with the feces. It could be normal having loose stools for 24-48hours after deworming tablet/pill. I would recommend to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

I would not be concerned about it just yet. This is not atypical for the bowels to be a little irregular after deworming. Just monitor your pet for the next 24 hrs for any straining (tyring to poop but can't) or diarrhea. If that occurs then it is best to get Graham Cracker evaluated by your vet for further care. But for now it is a bit premature to make that determination that your pet needs help.

Ah, gross pictures are part of our lives as veterinarians! This does look like a good poop to me. Remember that it can take 18-24 hours for new poop to form from food that was eaten, and if your vet removed most of the feces from the colon, there shouldn't be much left. The stool is also very soft, which is the purpose of lactulose. I would say you are ok staying at home tonight, but continue to monitor Georgie's bowel movements for the next week. If he isn't having at least 1 per day or if they seem abnormally firm, he may need to see the vet.
