My dog's stomach is bloated and he won't eat. What should I do?

If his belly seems distended and he is now acting ill, my concern would be that the swelling could be due to fluid in his abdomen (blood or free fluid), or a stomach torsion. This can be due to a splenic growth, liver disease, a toxin ingestion, or another underlying medical issue. If his gums are pale, not pink, I would have him evaluated immediately by a veterinarian, as it could be due to internal bleeding, or if he has non-productive retching (indicative of a stomach torsion). If his gums look pink and moist, I would still recommend he be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as you can to determine what the underlying swelling is, and what necessary treatment needs to be taken to resolve it. If you think Flower's belly is bloated / enlarged, I would have a veterinarian examine her and have x-rays taken of her abdomen. Things that would make a belly distend range from fluid in the abdomen, large amounts of gas (bloat) and tumors. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. A distended abdomen can be due to many things. Here is a list of some possibilites: 1. constipation 2. bloat - I agree that after 12 hours this is unlikely 3. abdominal mass/tumor 4. abdominal fluid (ascites) 5. pyometra - infected uterus; common since she is not spayed I would be worried about this even though she seems to be "normal". If it is an "open" pyometra she may not be feeling as ill as if it were "closed". 6. internal parasites (ie: roundworms, hookworms, etc) Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I suggest you get Nexa to your vet for an exam. Some simple blood testing and a couple x-rays could rule in/out most of the things I have listed above. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Tommy needs to go into a vet immediately. It's very serious he won't eat, he's lost lots of weight, and is weak from lack of nutrition. At his age, it could be something severe causing him to not eat, such as kidney failure, liver failure, cardiac disease, or cancer among others. He needs veterinary attention now, he will slowly be starving. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Sheena should be evaluated by a veterinarian right away! If her belly is swollen she could be suffering from bloat (stomach full of air), a GDV (where the stomach bloats and turns on itself) or she could have fluid in her belly or uterus (pyometra). Hello. A hard bloated stomach could be due to many causes including an obstruction, pancreatitis, gastritis, liver disease, kidney disease, and other causes. An x-ray would rule out a foreign body/obstruction, however it wouldn't show a gastritis/pancreatitis. I would recommend having bloodwork done, and if she is painful and has a bloated abdomen then an ultrasound may be required. Your vet may try some medications first for pancreatitis/gastritis without getting a definitive diagnosis, as they are both treated the same. If she is still sore and bloated, I would have her seen again. Good luck with Baby.

Oh goodness. I am also very worried about Scoby. I am concerned that he could have fluid in his abdomen. This could happen for many reasons including kidney disease, heart disease, intestinal problems, and will need lab work and possibly an abdominal ultrasound to help make the diagnosis.
