My dog had one puppy, still looks pregnant after hours. Is it an emergency?

When a dog is having active contractions, and it's been more than four hours since the last puppy came and you believe there are more, this is a medical emergency, and Daisy has to see a vet right away. This is not normal, and there could be a puppy stuck in her birth canal. Please take her into a vet now, she needs immediate medical attention.

Poor Kimber! If she has been having obvious contractions for several hours with no signs of puppies, then this is a medical emergency. She should not be straining to push out a puppy for more than hour. This can be a sign she needs help giving birth, and she may need a c section to safely deliver her puppies. At this point in time, this is a medical emergency and leaving her without help can lead to the death of her puppies and possibly her. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I would recommend getting her to a vet as soon as possible. If she delivered puppies dead on friday morning and now it is saturday evening this is to long. I would recommend getting her to a vet now for an x-ray to count the number of puppies still remaining. An ultrasound to make sure they are still alive and not in stress and even bloodwork to make sure she does not need calcium supplementation to help with pushing. The vet can either give her oxytocin to help with contractions or might recommend a c-section. I hope that ronda roo is okay and you get some healthy puppies.

If Angel is straining and cannot push the puppy completely out, then she should be taken to the nearest veterinary ER. If you wait, you risk the life of the pup, litter and the mother. Better to be safe and have her seen, than to wait and lose pups.

If it's been six hours since the last puppy was born and you believe Ahavala still has at least one more pup inside her, this is an emergency - she needs to be seen at an emergency clinic tonight for further evaluation (a physical exam, and likely x-rays and/or ultrasound) to determine if there is in fact another pup present. If so, she will almost certainly need an emergency c-section to remove it. here should generally be no more than two hours at most between puppies once a mother dog has started delivering, so a delay of this long is not normal and requires veterinary intervention.

It is very abnormal for there to still be a puppy left inside her after all this time, so it’s clear that things did not go properly when she was in labor. I would be very concerned that there could be more dead pups inside her, or that she could develop a serious uterine infection from this. I would recommend taking her to an emergency vet today for an exam. The doctor there can take x-rays and ultrasound her uterus to check for additional puppies, and can also start her on antibiotics or other treatment if needed depending on what is found.
