My dog stares, hides, won't eat, chews tail. Could it be seizures?

This sounds like it could possibly be a seizure type of event. I would highly encourage you to video tape/ record the next event and then have her seen by a veterinarian. I would be concerned about a seizure from this description. Try to get a video to show your vet. It's common for blood work to be normal after seizures. He could have epilepsy, or a congenital issue, or it could be something else entirely. There are many different seizure medications that can help, if your vet thinks it was a seizure after watch the video (and reviewing their exam and bloodwork results).

I'm a little concerned that these symptoms you report may be mild seizure activity. Especially if she does not really respond to you during the event. Circling can also be a symptom of something going on with the head (seizure or otherwise). If this has occurred more than once I would recommend a visit to your vet for a baseline neurologic exam and some blood work to rule out anything wrong with her blood sugar, electrolytes, or organ function. If you can catch an episode on video this can be really helpful so that your vet can determine if this is neurologic in origin. If determined to be neurologic in origin, then there are many things that can cause this, and further testing and/or anti-seizure medication may be needed. Sounds like the dog is having a partial seizure (fly biting). I suggest you refer to this link and then ask your vet about it. I don't think this and the gastroenteritis are related. I am sorry to hear about Baby. I would be concerned about things like a seizure disorder (they can sometimes act "out of it" prior to and after a seizure, and seizures can sometimes be mild and you may not notice them falling over and thrashing as you see in severe seizures), I would also worry about things like a liver shunt which can cause neurological signs. I would recommend bringing Baby in for an exam at the vet. They can do a neurological exam on him and may recommend bloodwork to check for underlying causes for his behavior.

When you describe your dog as ‘fly biting’ it makes me concerned that he is having seizure-like activity. If he is having seizures this would explain his abnormal behavior. The gums in this picture appear normal so I would not worry about that. I would recommend visiting your veterinarian as soon as possible. Hi there. So sorry that Kage is having this issue. Based on your description it sounds like seizure activity or a pain response (orthopedic pain like arthritis). I suggest you video an episode if it happens again so you can show your vet. Did the vet just examine him or was any testing done? If no blood testing was done that should be the next step. If the blood testing is normal then your vet can prescribe an anti-seizure medication or pain medication (depending on what they think after seeing the video) that will likely help. Hope this helps.
