My dog stares, licks air, and growls. Could this be a seizure?

This sounds like a form of seizure activity. I recommend taking videos of this behavior and taking him in for an exam and lab work. Seizures can be from many causes and he may need medication to control them. They also can be an indication of underlying medical problems so bring him in soon for an exam and treatment. Sounds like the dog is having a partial seizure (fly biting). I suggest you refer to this link and then ask your vet about it. I don't think this and the gastroenteritis are related. Hi there. So sorry to hear that Ruger is having this issue. My feeling on this behavior is that it is likely a form of seizure (psychomotor). The vet would not necessarily note anything abnormal on exam. If blood testing was not done I suggest you have that done as the next step. I also recommend you video tape with your phone some of this behavior so you can show that to your vet as usually the dog is not exhibiting these symptoms during the vet's exam. There are a few reasons that kind of behavior can start. Some are benign and do not cause any problems, but some are more serious. I would recommend keeping a journal of the frequency of the episodes and taking video of the episodes. Then I would recommend having Sharky's veterinarian examine him and watch the videos. We can sometimes see partial seizures occur as licking which your veterinarian may be able to determine from the video. They may also do blood work to look for other causes. Good luck! Hello. This sounds very suspicious of a seizure. The average age of onset of seizure activity for epileptic dogs is from 2-4 years of age. Since this is a first time occurrence...or the first that you have witnessed....you may have to wait and see if it happens again. It may help your veterinarian if you can video the episode if it happens again. It is always a good idea to have your veterinarian examine her to make sure there are no other problems and discuss the possibility of seizures. That sounds like it could be some kind of seizure activity. Get a video of it if you can and take her to the vet so they can see it and give her an exam. If it is happening only occasionally, they may opt to not do anything but monitor her condition since the medication to treat seizures can be more harmful than for her to have one every now and then. But if it is happening often medication may be the best option since the danger with seizures is your pet's body temperature can become dangerously high is she has a sustained seizure.

When you describe your dog as ‘fly biting’ it makes me concerned that he is having seizure-like activity. If he is having seizures this would explain his abnormal behavior. The gums in this picture appear normal so I would not worry about that. I would recommend visiting your veterinarian as soon as possible.
