My dog is standing for days, won't sit or lie down. Is he in pain?

Poor Toby! It sounds like he's quite painful. If he can't stand, there are a number of things that could have happened to him. He could have been hit by a car, or run into something and hurt his back. He could also have a slipped disc in his back. He needs to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. He or she should be able to isolate where the pain is coming from and provide the appropriate treatment.

That sounds like Toby may be in pain or feeling uncomfortable in the hind end or back, especially if he is shaking, seems in distress, and is abruptly sitting or having trouble walking normally. It's a good idea to bring him into your vet for an exam and to have the back checked as back issues are very common in "long" breeds such as Dachshunds. Your vet can help check for any pain, inflammation, swelling, or arthritis that could be potential causes.

Hello. I am sorry that Toby isn't feeling well. Shaking, not acting like themselves, and being unsettled are signs of pain and discomfort. If the shaking is the whole body, and more like tremors (uncontrolled and continuous) then this is very serious and associated with signs of a neuro-toxin. I would suggest having Toby seen by your vet, or an emergency 24 hour clinic if your vet isn't open. It could be that Toby just ate something that has upset his stomach and he is painful, however there could be something very serious going on. Either way, it sounds like Toby is in pain and at minimum requires soemthing for this. Your vet may also want to do some bloodwork or x-rays depending on what they find on their physical exam. Toby is experiencing very general symptoms of disease, these symptoms could fit almost any internal condition, maybe he is suffering from nausea due to a gastrointestinal disease and maybe he is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking him to the vet as soon as possible in order to get him checked, if he doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with Toby.

I would be worried that Toby may have pancreatitis, liver disease, or any other cause of pain. It would be best if he saw his veterinarian in order to have a physical exam performed. He may also need blood work or x-rays depending on what the veterinarian finds. You can try offering him a bland diet of boiled chicken, hamburger, or turkey and rice.

I'm interpreting your question to mean Toby is having *problems* jumping...? This could be a sign of pain with an orthopedic issue, such as luxating patellas (kneecaps that shift out of their correct place) or intervertebral disc disease. It could also be a sign of lethargy if Toby is showing any other symptoms of illness such as a decreased appetite, vomiting, or diarrhea. If this is a sudden change but Toby is acting completely normal otherwise, you may rest him for several days in case it's a minor injury - don't allow him to jump on/off furniture, carry him outside to urinate then right back inside, no rough play, etc. However, if it doesn't improve with a few days of rest, or if he's having any other symptoms, Toby should be seen by a vet to determine the problem and get him started on the appropriate treatment. Do not give him any medications without your vet's instructions, as no human pain medication is safe & effective for dogs, and anything you give could interfere with your vet's recommended therapy. Based on what you are describing I would be concerned about your older dog. Not eating for two days in a dog as old as Bunty is very concerning. She is probably falling over due to weakness and dehydration. I would recommend taking her to your vet as soon as possible. Your veterinarian will likely want to run some laboratory work to see what is causing her in appetence. X-rays may be needed as well.
