What's this lump on my dog's paw pad? Can I treat it at home?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Husky | Female | spayed | 55 lbs

Does this look like something that can be taken care of from home by soaking or putting ointment on? It's on the side of her paw pad

It is hard to tell exactly how big the mass is. It looks like a possible abscess (infection) of cyst. I would recommend taking Bella to a vet for a fine needle aspirate. This is where the vet looks at cells from the mass under the microscope to determine what it is. IF it is an abscess the vet might start antibiotics but if it is a cyst or growth it might need to be surgically removed. It most like will not hurt to soak the food in epson salt baths but it is unlikely to resolve the issue. Also, I would recommend an e-collar(cone) around the head to prevent licking and chewing. IF bella does lick it can make the growth larger or start a bacterial infection
