Why is my puppy squealing and running when he poops? Is he hurting?

Can you please try and explain to me why my puppy was squealing very loud and running when he went poop

Poor Bud'Dee! He could have eaten something that has gotten stuck trying to come out - this can happen if they eat fabric, hair, etc. I would look at his anus area and may sure there isn't poop hanging out that he can't expel of completely. If so, you can GENTLY pull and see if you can help him get it out. If it doesn't come easily, I would stop and take him to your vet. If you don't see anything, then I would just take him to your vet for them to check him out. It is obviously not normal for them to scream when he has a bowel movement. I hope this helps!

Something may have hurt while he was pooping, or may have been surprised by something. If the behavior happens again you may want to have your vet examine him to make sure everything is okay with his stool and rear end. If it doesn't happen again you probably have nothing to worry about.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend having Bandit's anal glands checked by a vet. Dogs have sacs inside their rectum that can become infected and cause pain when defecating. Having the glands checked will also ensure a rectal exam too. This may help narrow down the reason he is in pain. Please do not give any medications until you talk to a vet. Good luck and kisses to Bandit!

I am sorry to hear that Nubs is so uncomfortable. Back pain, tail pain, hip pain, and of course anal/rectal problems can all cause pain on defecation. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Hopefully, the pain is caused by something that can be corrected. No this is not normal and indicates there may be a source of pain and discomfort around the back passage causing some reluctance to empty his bowels. Anal gland issues would be quite common and your vet or vet nurse can check and empty them for you if required. Ensure he is up to date with worm treatments also as they can cause discomfort in this area also and that stool is not too hard or soft resulting in straining

Poor Biscuit! It is possible she is a little constipated. If it happens again, she has pain or swelling around the anus, can't go potty at all, or has any other signs of illness, a vet visit is best. Why is my puppy crying, scooting, and having painful liquid poop?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Teddy! First I recommend checking the skin and hair around his anus. See if there is fur and poop matted there and see if the skin is red and inflammed. If there is matted fur wash him. If he isn't matted or the skin is red I recommend he see your Vet today. They can address the skin and check to see if his anal glands need to be emptied. Full or impacted anal glands can cause scooting. Causesof diarrhea in puppies: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity or toxin ingestion. Bring a stool sample to your appointment. After the exam they may prescribe an antibiotic and/or a probiotic. If his skin is irriated they may prescribe a topical to apply. I hope this helps. My dog yelps when pooping, but his poop looks normal. Vet needed?

It's not normal that he's yelping when he's pooping, and it could be that Harley's anal sacs are impacted causing him pain when he poops. I would take him to the vet to have this examined, but it's not an emergency. If your vet is open on Saturdays, take him in tomorrow if possible. If not, make an appointment for him for next week. My dog cries pooping, hair stuck, blood on anus. Should I see a vet?

Poor guy. The only thing you can do at home here is to cleanse the area antiseptablly with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water or Chlorhexidine solution 3 or 4% diluted until a light blue mixture. If there is a lot of hair there, you can also gently cut away the hair to prevent further fecal matter to get stuck. If the area looks severely swollen, painful, or infected, then the best thing to do moving forward would be to get him seen and treated by your vet. It sounds like he is ingesting a lot of hair, so it would be wise to remove the source of his ingestion and either have him groomed more frequently and/or brushed at home more frequently to limit how much he is ingesting. If he still can't poop on his own, then yes he should see a vet to get an enema and remove all the stuck feces that are in his colon and provide him some relief. Poor guy. : ( I do hope that you can provide some comfort for him soon! Best of luck moving forward and take care.

Thank you for submitting your question Haily. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She could have a sore anal gland due to an infection or impaction. If this is not the case, she could be constipated or even have arthritis in her hips or lower back making it painful to defecate. Her veterinarian will carefully examine her and determine the source of he problem. From there, treatment can be started to make her more comfortable. I hope this information helps!
