Is my puppy suddenly in pain when yelping and running while pooping?

Poor Bud'Dee! He could have eaten something that has gotten stuck trying to come out - this can happen if they eat fabric, hair, etc. I would look at his anus area and may sure there isn't poop hanging out that he can't expel of completely. If so, you can GENTLY pull and see if you can help him get it out. If it doesn't come easily, I would stop and take him to your vet. If you don't see anything, then I would just take him to your vet for them to check him out. It is obviously not normal for them to scream when he has a bowel movement. I hope this helps!

From your post I am assuming that Lilly is producing stool, but she is asking to go out and poop a lot and is crying before and after pooping. Is the stool normal or diarrhea? If it is loose then she likely has diarrhea and is crying and going more often because she has the urge or feeling she has to go. If the stool is normal then I would have her anal glands examined and a rectal exam performed by your Vet. If she has diarrhea, fast her for 12 hours to rest her tummy then feed a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger mixed with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. Thank you for submitting your question Haily. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She could have a sore anal gland due to an infection or impaction. If this is not the case, she could be constipated or even have arthritis in her hips or lower back making it painful to defecate. Her veterinarian will carefully examine her and determine the source of he problem. From there, treatment can be started to make her more comfortable. I hope this information helps!

Swelling around the anal region could be an indication of an impacted or infected anal gland. The constipation you describe could be due to lack of fiber in the diet, eating something out of the ordinary, or perhaps an infectious cause such as an intestinal worm infection. If Mila has not seen her veterinarian for this yet, I would recommend this happen soon. Her veterinarian may recommend an exam, anal gland expression, and fecal test to help determine a cause so she can be treated appropriately. I hope this helps!

Your dog may have a problem with constipation, her anal glands may be inflamed or infected which can be very painful, there are a number of possibilities. I recommend getting her checked by your vet. If it is anal glands your vet can show you how to express the material from them so it doesn't build up and get painful, or if you take her to a groomer, they can do it when she gets a bath.
