My Yorkie puppy's back legs are splayed. Is it swimmer's syndrome?

Pain on extension of the hind legs can be indicative of hip pain, knee pain, spinal pain, or even a soft tissue injury in that area. I would recommend having Coco evaluated by a veterinarian so he/she can perform a complete physical, orthopedic and neurologic exam to better localize his pain. Based on what is found, he/she may then be able to prescribe an anti-inflammatory pain medication to help Coco feel better. I hope this is helpful!

Atlanto axial subluxation or cervical strokes or tetraparalysis due to tick paralysis or botulism or polyradiculoneuritis are all possible differentials although the diagnosis that your vet gave to you is probably the most likely. I would strongly recommend to have Dexter checked by a specialist in Neurology and Neurosurgery and have the best diagnostic and treatment options offered. Hello. This pup has a deformity that involves the joints of the rear legs. You should have your veterinarian assess the puppy immediately and see if there is a way to tape or wrap them to help. This will probably not correct in its own without some type of support wrap and physical therapy and even then it may not get better. Please have your vet examine the puppy ASAP. I suspect this is a congenital abnormality. I recommend to get Ares examined by the veterinarian. With puppies, sometimes there are treatments available since they are still developing but sometimes there are not any options. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hello. Make sure that there is no hair caught in the nail bed & make sure none of the toe nails are broken, cracked or growing into the paw pad(s). If this looks OK, then the next step is to have your veterinarian evaluate Little Mama to see if this is a soft tissue problem like a sprain or ACL tear, a bone problem like a fracture, bone spur or arthritis, or possibly even a neoplastic issue. Hello. This is most likely just due to how the puppy developed in utero. Hopefully, with time, the legs will strengthen. You can very gently manipulate the legs, doing range of motion exercises, but it would be best to have your veterinarian examine the puppy & show you the best way to help this little one.
