Why does my dog have sores on her snout after running in the park?

Hello. This can be several things. She may have picked up a bacterial infection while rooting around in the soil. This could also be some kind of allergic reaction or possibly even an immune-mediated response. You should have your veterinarian check this out as the right diagnosis will led to the correct treatment ( if anything is necessary ), especially if it is getting worse. So, there are a number of things this could be. 1) This could be an allergic response to something in her environment or an insect, 2) This could be a fungal or bacterial infection that could be primary OR secondary to trauma or an allergy. Ideally I would do a prep on a slide and look under the microscope to see if there is a significant bacterial or yeast population. Regardless, however, I think she would benefit from some topical treatment depending on what is seen under the microscope. If it seems to be spreading, and the area is swollen, some injectable or oral medications may be indicated.

Given that this sore on Trixy has grown, I would have her seen by the vet. The sore could be caused by a skin infection caused by bacteria or yeast, or it could be ringworm. The only way to know how to treat it is to have it diagnosed, and the vet is the person to make the correct diagnosis. Once a diagnosis has been made, the vet can prescribe treatment. These are odd lesions and one concern I would have is an immune-mediated skin disease. It is possible it is something else but problems affecting mucocutaneous junctions are oftentimes immune-mediated in nature. Other possibilities include bacterial infection, nutritional problem, etc. Your veterinarian is likely to advise some tests if this condition persists. A skin biopsy might be necessary to diagnose this. Once a diagnosis is made a sound treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck with Sasha.

So happy to hear that Parker made it home safe! He appears to have an abrasion on his muzzle. He likely scraped it sniffing or rooting around. He was likely looking for food, but he could have been exploring or trying to find his way home. It should heal or look significantly better within 48hrs. If it is not looking better, Parker will need to see his veterinarian. He may need antibiotics and to ensure he has no other problems from his adventure. I hope this information helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

While this may be caused by a bite from another dog, from my experience, this looks a little bit more like a wound from nudging something constantly with the nose. Perhaps nudging a door to a crate, or sticking his nose under a door repeatedly. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area, and maybe even getting Bear an E-collar or "cone" so that he does not cause further trauma to the area. I advise against applying antibiotic ointments such as Neosporin as Bear is likely to lick them off quickly. I hope this helps and that all is well with Bear!
