My puppy has a sore on his leg. What could it be and what should I do?

Poor Lazarus! This could be a bacterial or fungal skin infection, an allergy-related skin lesion, or a localized inflammatory reaction due to an insect bite or something similar. It's even possible that it could be a skin growth or tumor of some kind, especially if it feels raised vs. flat when you touch it. Treatment will depend on what the underlying problem is, so it's important to get a diagnosis first. I would recommend taking Lazarus to the vet for an exam. He/she can do some simple skin tests if needed. to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

Hello, this looks like a local irritation. If he wears a harness, you may need to adjust it or leave it off for a couple of days. Rubbing a small dab of 1% cortisone cream on the area twice a day should help, but stop after 72 hours, or sooner if the area becomes more irritated or redder. The eye appear to be a growth from the eyelid. Due to its size it is best to have it removed so it does not run the eye and cause an ulcer or irritation. The other picture is hard to see but you can clean it with soap and water and apply neosporin topically. Your vet can check it further when you get the eye growth scheduled

Puppies!!! This sore could be several things - urine scald and another puppy suckling this spot are likely. Watch the puppies closely to see if another pup is suckling or if mom is excessively licking this spot. Right now, you can use some topical triple antibiotic ointment (a small amount) a couple times a day. If it gets any bigger or deeper, seek veterinary care. Thank you for using pet coach.

Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further licking or chewing. This may be enough to allow for healing. Keep the area clean and dry. If it doesn't heal or if it grows or spreads, have Barnaby physically examined by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics or further diagnostics, such as a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, if it is a lump or mass.

I probably wouldn't apply any medication since she may be licking it off, and ointments can make some kinds of skin infections worse. If the sore is not going away in the next 2-3 days, if it is getting larger in size or if you notice more sores I'd recommend having your vet take a look.
