Why is my dog snoring so loud? Is it allergies, weight, or serious?

There are several things that could cause increased respiratory noises that you are describing. Bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma are all possibilities but her weight could contribute as well. I would focus on weight loss and bring her in for an exam . Chest adiogralhs and a good physical exam would be very helpful to diagnose

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Jackie doesn't have loud nasal noises or discharge when awake I think her snoring while sleeping is normal. It could be allergies or she could be overweight (obesity in dogs can cause snoring and/or breathing problems). If there are no symptoms while she is awake I don't think any treatment is needed. Based on your description it is likely mild allergies causing some nasal drainage. Over time allergies can also cause rhinitis in pets, which presents as snorting (stertor) sounds. If things don’t improve to seem to be bothering Remus your vet can prescribe some antihistamines to try or even some allergy medications. Secondary bacterial infections can also develop which typically cause decreased appetite, a low grade fever sometimes and yellow or geeen drainage from the nose. If you see those symptoms then it’s best to get him treated soon with a short course of antibiotics. Otherwise you may be able to wait things out to see if his allergies clear up. Using Heppa filters, frequent dusting and Benadryl can help with mild allergies in pets. I hope this helps and best wishes with your pet Remus. Most URIs are viral and run their course in 2 weeks. If he has always snored then it is likely normal for him. I would have him checked out by your Vet regarding the eye discharge which could be allergies or a conjunctivitis. I wish you the best

It could be allergies. Without hearing or examining him, it is difficult to determine definitively. Other causes may include respiratory infection or inflammation, collapsing trachea, heart disease, trauma or foreign body. If symptoms persist, have him examined by your veterinarian.

I wouldn't be super concerned about it if it is only when she is sniffing the ground, but I would discuss it with Emma's vet the next time she goes in. If you can get a video of what is going on, that may help the vet see what you are seeing. I couldn't guess what could cause it right now, though!

It is hard to say the exact cause of her breathing. I would be concerned about a possible upper respiratory infection, pneumonia, heart disease, heartworm disease or pain. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for a good listen to her chest and possible chest x-rays.
