My dog is sneezing, wheezing, and has ear drainage. Is it allergies?

I'm wondering if he has an upper respiratory infection causing the bleeding, or a foreign body, or a fungal infection. Apply gentle pressure to his nose if it starts bleeding again, or apply a cold compress to his nose to see if that helps. Handsome boy! He may have allergies from spring pollen or a mild cold. You can give Benadryl to reduce the nasal discharge and itching. There is a section on this website with information and dosages of common over the counter medications that are safe for dogs. if he stops eating, the discharge gets green or he's very lethargic then I would recommend a veterinary exam. If Jeter keeps sneezing frequently, and there has not been any improvement to Benadryl, it would be worth trying stronger anti-allergic medication (for example steroids) or / and a course of antibiotics. If this treatment does not make any difference, the next step would be checking the nasal cavity with a camera.

It could be definitely allergies. You should have seen some type of improvement (even a small amount) in Lola if it was scabies. I would talk to your veterinarian about allergy medication. There are some great options now including daily pills (Apoquel) and monthly injections (Cytopoint). Poor Loki! From what you're describing and the appearance of his nasal discharge, it sounds like he has a pretty nasty respiratory infection. He will need prescription antibiotics to treat his infection, so I would recommend taking him to the vet tomorrow morning if possible. In the meantime, you can use a warm washcloth to gently clean off the nasal discharge to make it easier for him to breathe. You could also try bringing him into the bathroom with you while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity often help to break up nasal congestion and may make him feel a bit better until you are able to see the vet.

Based on your description it is likely mild allergies causing some nasal drainage. Over time allergies can also cause rhinitis in pets, which presents as snorting (stertor) sounds. If things don’t improve to seem to be bothering Remus your vet can prescribe some antihistamines to try or even some allergy medications. Secondary bacterial infections can also develop which typically cause decreased appetite, a low grade fever sometimes and yellow or geeen drainage from the nose. If you see those symptoms then it’s best to get him treated soon with a short course of antibiotics. Otherwise you may be able to wait things out to see if his allergies clear up.
