My dog is sneezing a lot and vomited once. Should I be concerned?

Hello, thank you for your question about Panda. Sneezing and nasal discharge can be a sign of many possible underlying conditions in dogs. Dogs can have foreign material caught in their nose, allergies/inflammatory rhinitis, masses, or other abnormalities. They can also have viral/bacterial upper respiratory infections. It is possible that the vomiting could be related to this problem or could be another primary problem. I would recommend having Panda evaluated by your veterinarian. They can perform an examination and evaluate the air flow through Panda's nose and look for discharge or other abnormalities. They can also see if Panda has a fever or abnormal lung sounds. Poor Lady! I'm sorry that she's been sneezing - but the good news is, it's far more likely that she has a simple respiratory infection vs. something serious or life-threatening. If she's current on her vaccinations and acting normal otherwise, there's virtually no chance that she has distemper - this is mainly a disease of unvaccinated puppies, and affected dogs are extremely sick. Nasal tumors do occur in dogs, but would be statistically unlikely in a fairly young dog like Lady. We worry more about a tumor if there is sneezing that has been going on for weeks or months at a time with no improvement, especially with foul-smelling green or yellow discharge, or bleeding from the nose. I would recommend having her examined by a vet to help determine the problem, and hopefully put your mind at ease. If she does have an infection, your vet can prescribe antibiotics or other medication if needed to treat the problem and make sure that the sneezing resolves.

There could be something irritating in the environment causing Gohan to sneeze a lot like excess dust, or it could be he is suffering from a respiratory infection. One or two sneezes, even if out of the ordinary, is not necessarily problematic. Consider if you or someone you know sneezed a couple of times and if you would be extremely concerned even if you hadn't heard them sneeze previously. Unless you are seeing Tuxedo sneezing on a semi regular to regular basis, she does not need to be examined by a veterinarian. There is a definite possibility that she could have just been exposed to something that has caused some mild irritation, or she could be coming down with a cold. Continue to monitor for signs of nasal discharge, coughing, or exercise intolerance. Should any of these occur, have Tuxedo examined at your next convenience. Hope this makes sense.

Yes, I would be concerned - especially due to the presence of blood. Vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy and rapid breathing are not specific signs of any one disease process or illness. Many things can cause these symptoms so it is best to get Lucy checked out by your vet. It may not be anything terribly serious but if you have her checked out it willl give you peace of mind. Some potential causes: dietary indiscretion (eating something she shouldn't have, gastrointestinal obstruction, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, toxin exposure/ingestion, internal parasites, gastric/colonic ulceration, viral or bacterial infection just to name a few. I would be concerned about possible damage to the sinus tissue, a platelet disorder leading to her bleeding easier or even something like a bacterial infection causing a vasculitis which is when the blood vessels get leaky. I would recommend Lucy get checked out by her veterinarian so they can make sure she doesn't have any sort of bleeding issue or infection as if either those are present this could get worse.

It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking Lucy to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.
