My dog's violent sneezing sometimes causes a bloody nose. Why?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | 8 lbs

My dog has had sneezing fits that sometimes result in a bloody nose. It happens after she sneezes pretty violently and repetitively and the blood only comes in spurts. It tired her out. It will happen randomly. Sometimes she sneezes and nothing happens, though.

I would be concerned about possible damage to the sinus tissue, a platelet disorder leading to her bleeding easier or even something like a bacterial infection causing a vasculitis which is when the blood vessels get leaky. I would recommend Lucy get checked out by her veterinarian so they can make sure she doesn't have any sort of bleeding issue or infection as if either those are present this could get worse.
