My Pomeranian dog is sneezing a lot after kennel. Is it reverse sneezing?

You can look at some YouTube videos ("reverse sneezing dogs") to see if Buddy's symptoms are similar. Look at a few different videos. If you think this is what he was doing, it is no big deal. The cold air probably just irritated his nasal passages. There is no treatment for reverse sneezing; it is not a problem/issue and it is not life-threatening. Reverse sneezing is very common. If it was not reverse sneezing, then I would suggest you just monitor him and if the behavior recurs then you should take Buddy to your vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

No. It is not serious as long as you are sure that is what the actual issue is. I would suggest if it happens again try to video tape the episode with your phone and just drop by the vet's office, show the video to them and ask if they think it is reverse sneezing. Reverse sneezing is a real condition. I recommend to go look up videos on YouTube and see if that’s what Spencer is doing. There are also other conditions possible. You may try to record an episode and then have your veterinarian watch it. That is your best way to get the correct diagnosis. The most common reason for nasal congestion, sneezing and reverse sneezing are: allergies, upper respiratory tract infections, or foreign material above the soft palpate. I usually put animals with these symptoms on an antihistamine and an antibiotic. Most of the time that resolves the issue in an otherwise healthy young dog. I would take him to the Vet since it has been going on for several weeks. Good luck!

What I think you are describing is reverse sneezing. It is not anything to worry about. It is very common in dogs. Calming her down during an episode is the exact right thing to do. There is no other treatment needed for this issue. My recommendation is to look up videos on YouTube of dog's reverse sneezing and see if it matches what Abbie is doing. It sounds like a sucking in sneeze through the nose where they tend to hold their mouth open and grimace. I recommend searching YouTube for videos and see if that is what she is doing. It is common in some breeds (beagles). Some causes are allergies, inhaled some dust particles, foreign material stuck up the nose or above the soft palpate.
