My dog wheezes and shivers in cold snow. Is it reverse sneezing?

A reverse sneeze can be caused by irritants in the upper airway region so if there has been an increased amount of dust in the air this could potentially be causing the symptoms you are seeing. An environmental allergy or an upper respiratory infection could also lead to these symptoms. A reverse sneeze should resolve within a short amount of time. However, if it persist or worsens, I would have a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sugar is super cute! It sounds like Sugar may be reverse sneezing. It sounds like a sucking in sneeze through the nose where they tend to hold their mouth open and grimace. I recommend searching YouTube for videos and see if that is what she is doing. It is common in some breeds (beagles). Some causes are allergies, inhaled some dust particles, foreign material stuck up the nose or above the soft palpate. If the episodes continue video tape it and take her to the Vet for an exam. I hope this helps and I wish you and Sugar the best!

Poor Charlie! Look up a YouTube video of a “reverse sneeze” to see if this is what he is doing. If so, this is nothing to worry about and you can Help him stop by rubbing him from head to tail. Sometimes Benadryl on a regular basis will help decrease the frequency. See link below. If this isn’t what he is doing then I would have your vet look at him. With him being so young, he could have a viral infection or an upper respiratory infection which needs to be treated. If left untreated he could get worse. Hi there. Since this has happened to Bentley several times today, I would recommend having him seen by a vet and having an xray taken of his chest. It could still be a reverse sneeze but it's always better to be safe than sorry. I would also check and see if he'll stop if you briefly cover his nose. This is typical with a reverse sneeze and may give you some clues as to what is happening. Also try and get a good video to show your vet. I hope that helps. No. It is not serious as long as you are sure that is what the actual issue is. I would suggest if it happens again try to video tape the episode with your phone and just drop by the vet's office, show the video to them and ask if they think it is reverse sneezing. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would be more concerned about the wheezing as this can be seen with lung disease such as bronchitis for example. I do recommend that you have Keela evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to evaluate her and treat her accordingly. This is likely going to warrant chest x-rays as far as diagnostics go. Best of luck!

However, thankfully this usually is benign and rarely becomes anything concerning. Most dogs just have reverse sneezing episodes every once in a while without causing any issues. If this ever seems to affect Diva in any way or if these episodes become too frequent, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment to make sure that this is not anything else more concerning.
