My dog has small, non-growing bumps on his body. Are they serious?

However, those are usually benign. Westie's are well known for them. They are called sebaceous cysts. Good luck and have a good night!

Hi there. That appears to be just a benign wart or cyst. I would not worry about it at all. Just monitor it and if it starts to change in color, shape, size or it starts to bother Terry then you should get him to your vet for an exam. I don't expect that will happen. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Since it has changed size in such a short time, I recommend getting it checked by your vet. She's very young to be developing growths or tumors but it isn't unheard of at her age. Your vet will do an exam, some lab work, probably using a needle to sample some cells from inside the lump to try to identify the kinds of cells inside and therefore what is causing the lump. Based on these results, your vet will be better able to tell you what is going on and how best to proceed from there, if it is benign or needs further investigation.

My hunch tells me it is likely a sebaceous gland cyst (benign tumor); however, it is always best to get masses tested through your vet to be sure. Masses like this are often removed during another surgical procedure, such as a teeth cleaning. Removal should be considered in case this thing ruptures or causes irritation to Sydney in the near future. I hope things work out well for your pet Sydney. Take care.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! The bumps in the photos look similar to what we call sebaceous adenomas, which are benign most of the time and rarely cause problems. If they begin to change in color or size and become painful or irritating to Karlie, I would have your veterinarian take a look at them as sometimes these can be frozen off using a freezing solution or surgically removed. I would continue to monitor these bumps and if you notice the changes as mentioned above, then have your vet examine Karlie. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. Chances are that this is a sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cysts are usually harmless, sack-like growths with a lining that is not cancerous. In dogs, most cysts develop from hair follicles. These cysts typically appear as single, clearly defined, firm or soft lumps located in the skin or just beneath it. They are often between 0.5 to 5 centimetres in size and may sometimes have a bluish colour. A cyst can release a thick, gray-to-yellow-brown cheesy substance if it bursts. Other terms for sebaceous cysts in dogs include infundibular or follicular cysts. The lump needs to have a fine needle aspirate (FNA)/cytology to be sure of that diagnosis.
