Should I take my senior dog to the vet for a new shoulder bump?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | West Highland White Terrier | Male | neutered | 14 years and 2 months old | 21 lbs

Found a small bump on my dogs shoulder blade, near his neck. I've seen or felt small bumps on him before but they were usually nothing to worry about. This one is bigger, wanted to see if I should take him to a vet. He's a 14 year old westie.

Hi there. That appears to be just a benign wart or cyst. I would not worry about it at all. Just monitor it and if it starts to change in color, shape, size or it starts to bother Terry then you should get him to your vet for an exam. I don't expect that will happen.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
