Why did my Westie's head bumps disappear? Are they sebaceous cysts?

These do appear to be possible benign sebaceous cyst type tumors, which are typically non-cancerous. I agree that it looks like it is most likely a sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cysts tend to grow slowly over time, but should not increase in size rapidly or become red. They can become infected, so it if becomes red or painful, I would recommend having your veterinarian examine it in case it has become infected. If it is enlarging, your vet can perform a simple test called a fine needle aspirate where they use a small needle to collect some cells from the mass, then look at them under the microscope to make sure that it is a benign cyst. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This appears to be a fluid filled cyst from the looks of it. These can come and go at times. Typically there is no concern with these other than the fact that they are unsightly for some pet owners. This is something that could be removed under sedation if you would like it removed.

That is likely to be an abscess or potentially a skin cyst which has got infected. Considering her age it is not possible to rule out more sinister causes of it. Unfortunately at least a picture would be essential to determine more specifically the nature of it; otherwise I would suggest a check up as antibiotics are needed (pus may be a sign of infection anyway).

They may be able in this case to remove the tissue around it so that it stops bothering him. Another alternative is to treat it medically with antibiotics. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. Chances are that this is a sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cysts are usually harmless, sack-like growths with a lining that is not cancerous. In dogs, most cysts develop from hair follicles. These cysts typically appear as single, clearly defined, firm or soft lumps located in the skin or just beneath it. They are often between 0.5 to 5 centimetres in size and may sometimes have a bluish colour. A cyst can release a thick, gray-to-yellow-brown cheesy substance if it bursts. Other terms for sebaceous cysts in dogs include infundibular or follicular cysts. The lump needs to have a fine needle aspirate (FNA)/cytology to be sure of that diagnosis. Hi there! The thing that comes to mind when you describe Bear's skin condition are sebaceous cysts-a common but unbothersome condition many of our pets face. They may spontaneously resolve or "pop" and dry up, but usually more will form. Small mast cell tumors, plasmacytomas, etc can also present similarly but are less common. I hope this helps!
