Why does my Yorkie get small bumps under her fur along her spine?

The bumps could be cysts, lipomas, or benign tumors. These need to be checked out by a vet, especially since one has become larger. The highlights could be her fur has lightened from being out in the sun.

Without seeing a picture it is hard to say what they are. Yorkies can commonly have allergies that can lead to a skin infection and small pustules on the skin. They can also have adenomas that are benign skin growths that occur and appear as small warts about the size of pencil erasers. Pustules can be a sign of an infection and require antibiotics. Adenomas are typically removed if another procedure is needed and they are already under anesthesia. They are not worth anesthesia just for themselves.

This could be a cyst, an infection, plaque or even a skin tumor like a melanoma. Masses that grow suddenly, change in color/size/are painful are more concerning than those that do not change. The only way to know for sure what this mass is would be for your veterinarian to do an exam and potentially biopsy it. I do not recommend applying any ointment or other medication yet as it could be harmful depending on what it is.

This does not sound like a normal thing to happen in dogs, and I recommend that Binky see a vet for her skin issue. Your vet may do a skin scrape to look for mites, skin cytology to look for bacteria or yeast under a microscope, or bacterial or fungal cultures may be needed. Possible causes for bumps include fleas, mange, lice, infections (bacterial or yeast), ringworm, allergies, among others. I would recommend that Binky be on year-round flea prevention. While you await for your appointment, you can try a medicated shampoo like Dechra MalAcetic Ultra Shampoo, but be careful not to get it into her eyes. Also, think of any changes that have happened in the last few weeks, like changes in food, treats, medications, supplements, or household cleaners that could have had an effect on her skin.

Poor Tyson! This sounds like an allergy or a skin infection of some kind - both of these often cause lots of itchy bumps like this. He will probably need prescription medication (a steroid and/or antibiotics) to treat the problem effectively, so I would recommend taking him to the vet for an exam when you are able to. In the meantime, you can try bathing him in an aloe and oatmeal dog shampoo to help soothe his skin and temporarily relieve the itching - this will not treat the underlying problem causing the bumps, but may help to make him a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.

I would recommend bringing Maxi to the veterinarian. The only way to treat it is surgical removal if it is a cyst or a growth. Your veterinarian would be able to determine exactly what it is and what the course of treatment would be. WIthout physically seeing this it is difficult to say what treatment would be. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be benign or malignant growths. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign.
