My Yorkie has growing bumps and coat highlights. What should I do?

Small bumps that come and go could indicate an allergic reaction. The reaction could be related to bug bites, food allergies but it could also be related to a skin cancer called a Mast Cell Tumor. I recommend to have Gypsy examined to be safe. I hope this helps.

Without seeing a picture it is hard to say what they are. Yorkies can commonly have allergies that can lead to a skin infection and small pustules on the skin. They can also have adenomas that are benign skin growths that occur and appear as small warts about the size of pencil erasers. Pustules can be a sign of an infection and require antibiotics. Adenomas are typically removed if another procedure is needed and they are already under anesthesia. They are not worth anesthesia just for themselves.

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Increased pigmentation in the skin can be a result of hormonal changes such as those seen with hypothyroidism or chronic inflammation such as with skin allergies or yeast infections. The bump in the picture could be due to inflammation as well or could be a cyst, wart or skin tumor. If the bump is getting larger, does not go away or seems to be bothering Rhonda, I would recommend that you have her seen by your veterinarian. The changes in skin color may resolve with time but if they do not or seem to be getting worst, I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. They may recommend checking thyroid levels to rule out hypothyroidism.

Any growth needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Them to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growths and send them to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sadly a lot of skin masses can look and feel the same. I always recommend anytime a new mass shows up or an old one changes that you get it looked at by a Vet. It could be a lipoma (benign fatty mass), normal anatomy, a cyst or a cancerous growth. I don't think you need to rush Bella in but watch it closely for rapid changes and have her seen at your convenience. I hope this helps and I wish Bella the best!

This could be a cyst, an infection, plaque or even a skin tumor like a melanoma. Masses that grow suddenly, change in color/size/are painful are more concerning than those that do not change. The only way to know for sure what this mass is would be for your veterinarian to do an exam and potentially biopsy it. I do not recommend applying any ointment or other medication yet as it could be harmful depending on what it is.
