Why is my Dachshund slow, vomiting, and has black tarry poop?

I highly recommend taking Frankie to a veterinarian. He needs fluids and blood work. It can be pancreatitis, a bleeding ulcer, parvo, intestinal parasites, etc. It is something where a physical examination and further diagnostics are warranted. I am sorry to hear about Lilly. Unfortunately these are very serious and concerning symptoms. Dark tarry stool can indicate bleeding in the GI tract, which could be from an ulcer, a tumor, and more. Unfortunately there is not any over the counter treatment we can offer since we aren't certain of the cause of her symptoms. I would look into whether or not there is a low-cost clinic in your area. Sometimes the humane society or APA will have one. Other options can include seeing if the clinic offers payments (some do and others work with outside companies such as Care Credit to offer payments), or even asking a family member for a loan. The tar like appearance to his stool is likely due to digested blood, indicating bleeding in the GI tract of some kind (a growth, an ulcer, secondary to toxin ingestion, etc.). I would have him seen, have any necessary testing done (X-rays, bloodwork), and get started on treatment to resolve his issues (GI protectant, anti-nausea medication, anti-diarrheal, antacids, for example). Diarrhea and vomiting can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. When there is evidence of black stools that can be a sign of gastrointestinal ulceration for example. recommend that you have Pepper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Poor Mimi  The hives and itchy patches can be caused by an allergic reaction, and antibiotics can cause vomiting as a side effect. What I'm concerned about is the black poop, which indicates bleeding from the upper GI tract. She sounds very sick, and you cannot treat this at home. Please take her into a vet immediately.

Oh no, poor Pixee! It's very concerning that she is passing feces that have blood in it. If she is pooping a lot, she could have diarrhea. She really needs to see a vet as soon as possible because blood in the feces can have some very serious causes including eating something toxic, a foreign body, trauma to the GI tract, or GI tumors. I would take Pixee into a vet immediately to diagnose the cause of her bloody feces and the vet can discuss treatment options.

Hi there and thanks for posting! Oh dear, this doesn't sound good. If Brownie is having dark or black stools, this can be an indication of an upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Jaundice is caused by liver disease and dark yellow urine signals she may be dehydrated. It sounds like there is a lot going on with Brownie. Portal hypertension (pressure that build up from the veins connecting the liver and gastrointestinal tract) can cause decreased blood flow into the liver (often due to injury or damage to the liver) and blood to back up in veins going to the stomach and the rest of the gastrointestinal tract. This can cause the veins to enlarge and swell and rupture which can cause bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract. It may be Brownie's liver dysfunction is the primary cause of the melena (digested blood in stool making it look black). IV fluids and liver protectants (like SAMe) may help. I would recommend an ultrasound and biopsy of the liver). I am sorry to hear Brownie is having so many issues. I hope this gets better soon!
