My dog is sleepy and not eating after Cerenia. Is this normal?

I am guessing the injection given was Cerenia. Side effects are uncommon with the use of this medication, but the most commonly noted side effects were: drooling, drowsiness, diarrhea, and appetite loss. I would be worried and I think he needs to get back to the vet. Were any x-rays or blood testing done? If not, that needs to be done to figure out what is going on. This sounds like it could be something more serious going on. If it was just a simple upset stomach he should be feeling MUCH better after that injection and not sleeping for 10 hours. I would be worried.

Sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with Jorja. I am going to go out on a limb and assume the anti nausea medication provided was Cerenia. This is typically a very effective medication for vomiting, and if there is still vomiting in the face of this, I would definitely recommend getting her back into the vet for re-examination. I would strongly recommend x-rays and blood work. Depending on the level of dehydration, hospitalization with IV fluids would likely be useful particularly if the vomiting is going to continue. I'm glad you have been in contact with Alaska's vet. Lethargy is a side effect of CERENIA, and this lethargy could potentially lead to slow and even breathing. That kind of breathing is ok. I would continue to monitor her.

The injection is called Cerenia, if this didn't help then you must take him back to the vet for a blood test and xray/ulrasound, he might be suffering from either a foreign body in the GI tract or severe gastrointestinal infection.

I'm sorry Sam is so sick! Excessive drooling and lethargy are side effects of Cerenia, and those certainly can be causing the symptoms you are seeing now. I would monitor him for now, and watch out for additional side effects such as fever, convulsion, panting, and muscle tremors. Should you see any of those signs, I would rush Sam into an ER vet immediately. Otherwise, wait until the morning to get the blood test results. Just to add, I'm always an advocate of seeing a vet just to be safe. In my opinion, it's best to be safe than sorry, and if you are very concerned about Sam, it's certainly find to take him into an ER vet to get checked out. Cerenia is an excellent medication, but yes sometimes a dog can still be sick while on it. If you are very worried about Lily, leaving her at the vet is the best thing you can have done. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
