My dog didn't sleep with me as a puppy, why now that they're big?

Hi there. It's fine to let him sleep in bed with you if you don't mind, and if you're a light enough sleeper to wake up during the night if he needs a potty break (which is likely!). It's normal for young puppies to be frightened or unsure about sleeping alone at first. Until today, he always slept with his littermates in a warm snuggly pile, with his mom nearby. So being by himself in a cold bed is scary, and not natural.

Many dogs get too hot in the night and want to sleep on the floor. Also if he's now bigger it may be crowded and he needs to stretch out. This is not a problem usually. That's a very good question! There could be various reasons Miku likes to sleep in your bed. It's comfortable, likely raised enough to provide a good vantage spot to view the rest of the room from, and most importantly, it makes her think of you, which is likely comforting to her. You may have inadvertently trained Marley to be such a cuddler - he obviously feels most secure when he's close to you. If you dont like this, you'll have to spend time training him to sleep and rest in his own bed. This is not an overnight process, but is best done with food and verbal rewards. When he is in his bed, toss him small training treats. You can also move his food bowl to be closer to his bed. If he sleeps in bed with you, have his bed on the floor and give him praise when he goes in it. I am a big fan of the ADAPTIL products - such as the pheromone collar and Plug in unit - they will help him feel more comfortable away from you.

Is there a reason why Jade can't sleep in the bedroom with you? Many dogs sleep in the bedroom with their owners, and some owners let their dog sleep on the bed with them. There's no harm in letting that happen, she probably wants to be near you in order to make sure you are safe.

Precious may be too hot on the bed, or she may have found another place she prefers to sleep that feels more secure. If she also has changes to her appetite or energy level, or if she is coughing, sneezing, vomiting or having diarrhea, I recommend having her seen by a vet, as sometimes changes in behaviour/ sleep patterns can indicate illness.
