My dog had a seizure. Is it safe to let her sleep afterwards?

I would just keep an eye on him and if it should happen again take a note on how long does the shaking last, if he is salivating, passing urine or feaces, as this could be signs of a seizure. It' s important not to overstimulate him so let him come out of the seizure spontaneously, make sure he is not on an elevated surface and turn off lights and avoid loud noises.The seizure should last a couple of minutes and then stop. If it doesn't stop you should seek veterinary help. Hopefully it will not happen again, if it does appear to have another seizure make sure you offer some water and food once it' s over. There is a chance that Ted did not have a seizure but he was just twitching in his sleep .. so try not to worry too much ! If Ted should have seizures, he will need further investigations to understand what is causing them and remember that at no point he should have a seizures after another, if this should occur you should take him to see a vet asap. One off seizure is not an emergency though, and it' s normally contraindicated to rush them to a clinic as this could trigger more seizures. If you are worried and you are not sure about what s happening, call for advice/have him checked over.

This will depend on the diagnosis. Seizures may be controlled with medications that your veterinarian can prescribe or dispense. A consultation with a veterinary neurologist may be recommended. In the meantime, begin a Seizure Log. For every event, record the time, duration, diet, medications, supplements and activity before and after. This may help your vet diagnose the underlying cause

Poor Coco! When a dog has a seizure, they can appear "out of it" for a bit afterwards. She should see a vet for this problem, and if she had a prolonged seizure (greater than five minutes), rush her into an ER vet right away. If she seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near her mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor her at all times during the seizure to ensure that she cannot hurt herself by crashing into furniture, etc Best of luck, I hope this helps!

It isn't ideal but unfortunately most pet owners have to work. If your pet is on anti-seizure medication(s) then it would be assumed that most of the major seizures are under control. If the seizures are not under control and you are worrying about seizures occurring during the hours that you are not home then an adjustment in his ant-seizure medications may be needed and you should discuss this with your vet. It is not unheard of to have a pet on multiple anti-seizure meds because they all work on different areas of the brain. So to sum it up, if your pet is not having seizures on the days and hours that you are home and you are not seeing any evidence of break through seizures while you are gone (i.e. urine or feces on the floor, knocked over house ware, dazed pet with altered mentation when you come home), then it is safe to say that your pets seizures are probably being managed well. Another option is to have a camera surveillance set up in your house if you are still concerned.

I'm sorry that Layla is having seizures. Lethargy, stumbling, excessive sleepiness and decreased appetite can all be caused by seizure activity. The brain undergoes an enormous amount of electrical stimulation during a seizure and can take a while to recover. If by the morning she's not improving, I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian for evaluation. They may recommend blood work to look for possible underlying causes of the seizures. Depending on the frequency and severity of her seizures, they may also recommend that anti-seizure medications are started. I hope this helps and that Layla gets feeling better soon!

If she seems perfectly fine now...eating, drinking, peeing, pooping and walking normally with a normal activity level (not lethargic)... and this was her first episode, there is nothing that your vet could do other than routine screening bloodwork to rule out a liver/kidney issue or low blood sugar as the cause of the seizures. Your vet may also prescribe rectal valium suppositories to have on hand to treat any future seizures. Cats and dogs are usually not started on seizure medications unless they have several seizures a month or a prolonged seizure. Hopefully Rey won’t have any more episodes, but if she does, a short video clip may be helpful to bring to your vet. Good luck!

There is no need to take her to emergency care unless she has a seizure that lasts 5 minutes or longer. Then she needs to be taken in right away. Keep a diary of when she has a seizure, note the time it starts and ends and the time of day. Give this to the owner to be taken to the vet when they return. Should the dog have many (more than 5) seizures in a day, take her to her vet for adjustment of medication.
