My dog has skin bumps and isn't eating. What could be wrong?

From your description, it sounds as though Muffin has a bacterial skin infection and the bumps you are seeing are pustules. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Hello. This looks pretty typical for an allergic dermatitis that has lead to a skin infection. Ideally, this should be addressed by your veterinarian. They can discuss possible causes (food allergy, contact allergy, flea allergy, etc) and prescribe medications which may include antibiotics for the raised lesions and allergy therapies.

Hello! Those lesions could be caused by an infection like bacteria or even fungus as well as allergies. Usually though mild infections and allergies don't cause dogs to be depressed/act abnormally. If his behavior continues, he has any vomiting, or his food/water intake goes down further I recommend having your veterinarian do an exam as those changes could be caused by something more serious, like liver issues, anemia, an infection or even cancer.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Possible causes are a skin infection from either yeast or bacteria or even both, demodex or even rignworm. Sadly they can all look like this. I would take Ace to the Vet and have his skin looked at. A skin infection tends to be easy to diagnose visually. Demodex requires a skin scrape and ringworm is a fungus that needs to be cultured. I wish Ace a speedy recovery!

Hi, and thanks for your question. This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. It may be a skin growth or cyst that is forming since it is different and lasting longer. With the thinning hair coat in some photos i would be concerned you have a skin infection that is contributing to the bumps and it is spreading and affected this hair follicle. I would have your vet check to see if it is infected as this will need antibiotics to clear it up. They can also check for any further parasites or an allergy
