My dog has skin bumps on neck and face after grooming. What to do?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While Jetta's bumps can be caused by a reaction to the shampoo used, they can also be due to an infection or certain skin mites. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area for the next few days and having Jetta seen by a vet if it does not improve. The area may also be itchy, so you can get her an E-collar or "cone" to prevent her from scratching andc ausing further damage. I hope this helps and that Jetta feels better soon!

I would wait 24 hours or so after he was groomed to be bathedagain. This is because frequent bathing can dry out the skin and cause more irritation. If his itching continues after one bath he may have an infection and need to be seen by your veterinarian. You could also try and oatmeal-based shampoo as it can be soothing for itchy skin.

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. Based on your description, this sounds like a bacterial skin infection called pyoderma, usually caused by a normal skin resident. Pyoderma is caused by lots of things including external parasites (fleas, ticks, mites), allergies, contact irritants, etc. The best thing to do is have Jr evaluated by your veterinarian. They can evaluate Jr. and then make recommendations for tests if they are needed. Lots of times we can evaluate these kind of problems and just prescribe some treatment. If this problem keeps recurring, then at that point your vet will advise some tests to try to figure out what is causing the problem. Good luck with Jr. I hope he gets better soon.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Kiowa is likely having a reaction to something. It could be the saltwater causing irritation to the skin. That much salt on the skin can become quite irritating, especially if it is not washed off. I would run to the nearest store and grab a bottle of Aveeno oatmeal shampoo and bathe her with that for at least 8-10 min. I would not allow her to go back in the water after until this resolves. If there is no improvement or the skin condition worsens I would recommend having a veterinarian examine her so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Nero. The best thing for something like this is to bathe him in an oatmeal based shampoo (either one for people, like Aveeno, or one labeled for dogs) using COOL water. Let him soak for about 10 minutes & repeat daily as necessary. You do not want to use any topical creams or ointments as this may leave him a greasy mess. Hopefully, this will help his skin greatly. I could be that Zeke is suffering an allergic reaction from the puppy shampoo, and I would not use it again on him. The bumps may go away on their own, but oftentimes an allergic reaction requires veterinary treatment to fix. As long as the bumps aren't getting bigger and his face isn't swelling (which would affect his ability to breathe), it's fine to wait until the morning to have him seen by a vet. If his bumps get larger, more appear, and/or his face starts swelling, take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him right away. I hope this helps!
