My puppy got bumps after bath with puppy shampoo. Is it an allergy?

It definitely seems like she's reacting and it may be worth taking her to a vet for medication if this doesn't go down soon. The best thing you can do at this time is wash your dog again with just cool water. The cool water will help give some relief and will help to remove the cause of the reaction. I recommend using a shower head for 15 minutes all over her body, so there is good pressure to remove the shampoo residue. If she happens to start vomiting, has trouble breathing, or starts breathing faster than normal, then these are signs of a severe allergic reaction and I recommend taking her to the emergency vet immediately for treatment. The bumps could be an allergic dermatitis from fleas, insect bites, etc. It could also be a bacterial infection, even if you aren't seeing any purulent material. You could bathe him with a dog shampoo, like Epi-soothe, and see if that helps. Otherwise, he should be seen by a vet for treatment. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, of other medication to help.

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If the bumps developed after you bathed Ivy, she certainly could be having an allergic reaction to the shampoo, but if the rash was already there, she might be having an allergic reaction to something else or may even have a skin infection. This looks like an allergic reaction to something or general allergies. Make sure he is on a good veterinary prescribed flea control. You can try to shampoo him in a chlorhexidine shampoo to help heal the red bumps. You can also Give him 75 mg (3 adult) Benadryl to help with any itching. If he isn't itching and/or the bumps aren't improving, I would contact your vet for an exam to ensure he doesn't need a stronger allergy medicine or antibiotics. I hope this helps!

It could be that Zeeke is having an allergic reaction, and he's pawing at his face to try to scratch it. I would take him into a vet now for an exam. If he is having an allergic reaction, it could progress to breathing difficulties, and that becomes a medical emergency. Poor pup. It is likely your pup is having a skin allergy or mild infection on the skin itself. Overbathing can potentially do this, as well as urine scalding if he tends to have accidents in the crate and then lays down in it. Puppies can hold their bladder for how ever many months they are + 1 in hrs. So since Dak is approx 3 months old, he can hold it for 3+1=4 hrs at a time. If you are away for longer then its best to try and get a neighbor or friend to come by and walk him so he can relieve himself. To treat the skin bumps I would recommend trying to cut down on the baths and only use an oatmeal based puppy shampoo once every 2-4 weeks. In between baths if he gets dirty its best to use puppy wipes. I would also recommend that you make sure he doesn't have fleas by applying a flea preventative on him once a month. Some dogs have flea allergies and will itch in response to a flea biting them. And lastly, Dak will likely need a short course of antibiotics prescribed by your vet to take care of the current skin infection and perhaps antihistamines to stop the itch.
