My dog has itchy bumps on her neck after swimming in the ocean.

It definitely seems like she's reacting and it may be worth taking her to a vet for medication if this doesn't go down soon. The best thing you can do at this time is wash your dog again with just cool water. The cool water will help give some relief and will help to remove the cause of the reaction. I recommend using a shower head for 15 minutes all over her body, so there is good pressure to remove the shampoo residue. If she happens to start vomiting, has trouble breathing, or starts breathing faster than normal, then these are signs of a severe allergic reaction and I recommend taking her to the emergency vet immediately for treatment. Hey there. It looks like Waffles may be having an allergic reaction to something which is causing the bumps. It may be to a product your groomer used, or it may be coincidental. I would recommend giving him another bath with an oatmeal/aloe shampoo and see if that will sooth the skin. I recommend keeping a close eye on the area for the next few days and having Jetta seen by a vet if it does not improve. If the bumps developed after you bathed Ivy, she certainly could be having an allergic reaction to the shampoo, but if the rash was already there, she might be having an allergic reaction to something else or may even have a skin infection. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). It is possible that your pets could have picked up other parasites besides fleas from the lake. I would not recommend any more flea baths as this can cause excessive drying of the skin, which can make the itching worse. If you cannot find the source of the itching for your pets then it would do them some good to get a veterinarian involved who can look at the skin and make a diagnosis as to the cause. We unfortunately cannot do that via the internet. Another option is to give the pets an oatmeal based shampoo bath, letting it soak on the skin for 5-10 minutes, then rinsing. If this helps soothe the itching, then great. But if not then they likely will need stronger medications available only through your vet. Also if there is a parasite involved, then treating for the particular parasite will likely resolve the itching without need for further medications.
