My dog has bumps after grooming. When to use sensitive skin shampoo?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Schipperke | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

I took my Schipperke to a groomer to have a bath (as he's going through his Blow-out). He started breaking out in little bumps, I'm assuming it's an allergy to the shampoo they used. How soon should I give him a bath with "sensitive Skin" shampoo? should I wait for the bumps to go away first? I've been giving him benedryl to help with his itching (he's been rubbing his back up against the rug and grass, not really scratching with his paws much).

I would wait 24 hours or so after he was groomed to be bathedagain. This is because frequent bathing can dry out the skin and cause more irritation. If his itching continues after one bath he may have an infection and need to be seen by your veterinarian. You could also try and oatmeal-based shampoo as it can be soothing for itchy skin.
