Do dog skin and allergy vitamins work? What about cloudy eyes?

The only treatment is the topical application of eye drops to lubricate the surface of the eyes. If the eyes are not responding, then drops to decrease the body's immune response may be required. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to skin allergies mostly due to the fact that it started after moving. Adding fish oil can be considered regardless to help with the dry skin. You can use the commercial kind for dogs. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

It sounds like Mochu might have an environmental allergy. This based off the commend you make that the skin became a problem when the environment changed. Environmental allergies can be difficult to treat. I highly recommend applying flea prevention every 30 days. Also, you can use an over the counter anti histamine to help control itch. IF the skin is breaking and bleeding you can try an over the counter medicated shampoo. I am not sure about the supplement you mentioned. I have seen fish oils and omega three fatty acids help with skin control. Mochu might need to go see a vet for possible steroid or apoquel to help decrease itchy skin. However I would also recommend a basic blood screen because endocrine disease like hypothyroidism can also cause skin issues in older labs.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cataracts in dogs can be caused by diabetes, so if the cataracts are new you should have Lulu checked for this. Otherwise, cataracts cannot be fixed with drops, but would require a surgery to the eye. Also, cloudiness in the eyes isn't always cataracts, but can be something called 'nuclear sclerosis' which causes a cloudy appearance but the animals can still see. No human drops should be applied, and no drops will help with this. There are lots of medications to treat various conditions that occur along with cataracts (uveitis, glaucoma, etc). I recommend having her seen by your vet before any medications are given. Best of luck with Lulu.

Skin allergies are non related to oils, minerals or vitamins so non of those are likely to help unfortunately, the two options are either to find the source of the allergy and eliminate it from her environment or food, or using a medication such as Apoquel which you are already doing.

Surgically, you can have these removed but this procedure typically costs $3000 per eye in my experience. It is possible that the cataracts could be due to diabetes but without blood work, it is difficult to say. Even if this was due to diabetes, there is no reversing the condition once developed. The skin could be a skin infection or allergy. I would recommend using the following products, which can all be found online to see if this helps the skin. I hope this helps! Both of them are products containing omega 3 fatty acids and vitamins and fish oil basically. Any veterinary product available in Portugal with similar content (ask your local veterinarian as unfortunately I do not know about veterinary market products in Portugal) will be fine. These are not specific medicines but only supplements that can help with allergic skin but not treat the signs (itch usually). Drugs that will help with the signs would be basically steroids, Apoquel, and immunosuppressive medications.
