My dog has white eyes, skin spots, & stinky. Can I treat at home?

Unfortunately there is no treatment for cataracts other than cataract surgery to remove the diseased lens, and this costs thousands of dollars (around $7000 for both eyes). There are eye drops that you can try called Ocluvet, but there has been little research on these drops to suggest they actually "dissolve" the cataracts. The black spots on Bambi’s belly look like pigmentation which can happen after there has been skin disease or excessive itching. It also looks like she may have some red areas including the spot near her nipple which could be a bacterial skin infection. Her eyes might be cloudy from cataracts or an age related lens change known as nuclear sclerosis. Unfortunately I think the only way you’ll be able to know what is causing Bambi’s symptoms for certain would be to have an exam with a veterinarian. I would recommend using a shampoo such as PS Douxo Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolved. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Spatsie! From your pictures, the affected area is either with in the anterior chamber or the corneal surface of the eye. It is not the lens so it is likely not nuclear sclerosis or a cataract. With glaucoma the eye is very red, enlarged, and painful. From your picture the sclera (white part of the eye) doens't apear red. Glaucomoa is diagnosed based on measuring the intra-ocular pressure of the eye with a tonopen or other device. My worry is that the white substance is white blood cells (hypopyon) with in the anterior chamber (which can lead to glaucoma). Corneal ulcers, corneal abscesses, uveitis, and systemic illnesses commonly cause hypopyon. The other possibility is a severe corneal ulcer. Spatsie needs to have his eye examined by a Veterinarian. I would consider looking into CareCredit and apply for a line of credit you can use for veterinary care. You can go to their website and apply online. This may be an allergic reaction, an infection or an inflammatory process of some kind. This would warrant taking biopsies of this to look into it more closely or at least treating for possible allergies. I highly recommend you consider taking Skyla to your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to look into this further and start therapy so that then you can treat her at home. Best of luck!

The photos you have provided are a bit blurry but I can tell that the skin is thickened and irritated. From your description, it sounds as though Cleo is battling a skin infection that could be secondary to a chronic allergy. Prednisone will help with the symptoms of the allergy but unfortunately long term use will lead to abnormal clinical signs from the steroids. I would recommend treating Cleo with oral antibiotics, antifungals alongside topical therapy. She may also be dealing with a condition known as Atopic Dermatitis, in which case will need specific treatment such as Atopica or Cytopoint. I would recommend using the below recommended products and discussing additional oral treatments with your vet other than steroids. I would also recommend having her skin scraped to check for skin mites. I hope this helps and that Cleo's skin improves!
