My dog has serious sinus and throat swelling. What can I do?

That is a really large swelling so he should be examined and treated by a vet. Your vet can do some testing to figure out the cause and then prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications. Please call your vet and have him examined.

It is difficult to know the cause without seeing the swelling. Your dog could have an infection, allergic reaction, injury, or a mass causing the swelling. This may be an allergic reaction to something she has come in contact with or possible dental inflammation, if it persists beyond 12hours or she is uncomfortable I wold recommend you have it checked by your vet and they can prescribe medication to bring the swelling down. Kennel cough is characterised by a harsh, persistent cough and sinus issues generally present with discharge, pain, discomfort and snuffling

Judging from the pictures, I would be suspicious that this is an abscess / infection or a nasal / sinus tumor. If this is a tumor, it may have developed a secondary infection, which is why it likely responded to the previous treatment. Unfortunately I do not have an answer for you on what this is other than it would need further testing such as rhinoscopy or CT scan to help determine what this could be. If you are unable to do further testing, I would consider continuing the antibiotics / steroids long term to help keep Luna comfortable. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. I'm sorry that Sheru is having this issue. Swelling like this can be caused by many different things: * allergic reaction * infection and/or foreign body * auto immune disease * cancer If the antibiotics have not helped then you will need to get Sheru back to the vet for another evaluation. He may need a course of anti-inflammatories or some additional testing to see what is causing the swelling. There is really not anything we can tell you to do for this over the internet, I'm sorry. Hi Dorian, You really need to get Susie back to the vet. Did they check her teeth carefully when you had her in last time? Usually bad breath is associated with dental disease and Dachshund's are notorious for having bad teeth. You are probably feeling an enlarged lymph node. This can be serious. It may be enlarged from the bacteria in her mouth but it could also be something worse like lymphoma (cancer). There are many vet clinics these days that offer low cost services. I suggest you try to contact one of them to see what assistance they can give you.
