My dog is shivering, not eating, and has hot ears. Should I worry?

Poor Polar. The shivering could be from pain or he could have a fever. You should have him examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run blood work if needed and then determine the best way to treat. He might need an antibiotic and/or pain medications to treat.

Poor Brownie! The good news is that his nose being cold and wet is not a sign of illness in dogs. A dog's nose can go from cold and wet to warm and dry simply by lying in the sun or next to a heat source. It is concerning, however, that he is not eating or drinking, and is shaking and laying around. It is serious when a dog won't drink water, and I would have Brownie seen by a vet right away. This not eating and drinking could be caused by a systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. He could be shaking because he has a fever. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him for them. I would take him into a vet right away.

Hello, sorry to hear about your pup. There are several causes for increased drinking and decreased appetite. However, it may be that he is just a bit cold. Some other causes could include anxiety. Finally underlying metabolic diseases such as kidney disease, cushings, hypothyroidism, or other forms of GI disease may cause this as well. If he continues to do this then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Diagnostics may include bloodwork, an abdominal x-ray, or even an ultrasound. Hope this helps and best of luck.

I am not as worried about the swollen mammary glands as this can be normal post heat, but I am very worried about th decreased appetite and shivering. Pyometra is a life threatening uterine infection that occurs several weeks after heat cycle. Dogs often have non-specific signs of illness such as lethargy, fever, decreased appetite, sometimes increased water consumption, and occasionally vaginal discharge. I would highly encourage you have her examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I would not wait until Tuesday. X-rays and blood work are usually needed to make a diagnosis. Sometimes early pyometra will need an ultrasound to find it. If she does happen to have a pyometra she will need an emergency spay. Best of luck and I hope she does well. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Panda evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Hello, sorry to hear about Ariel. She could be feeling sick either due to allergies, pain, or a high fever if she has some sort of infection. If she is otherwise stable, you may continue to monitor her until the morning and have your veterinarian look at her if she is still shivering.
