My 11 yr old Shih Tzu has a discharge from both eyes. Looks like pus, not clear. Do I need to take her to a vet or is there an over the counter remedy I can try? Thank you.

It sounds like Phat Boi is experiencing two different problems. If his eye is shut from discharge, then he likely has an eye infection, such as conjunctivitis. Any eye infection is considered an emergency, so I would take him into a vet right away. Leaving an eye infection untreated can lead to vision loss, which is why he needs to see a vet now. The vet can confirm that he does have an eye infection, and can prescribe treatment for it. As for his ear, it sounds like he might have an ear infection. While at the vet, they can examine his ear, determine if he does have an ear infection, and can prescribe medication to treat it. Please take him into a vet now.
