My dog is shaking, yelping, and won't eat. Does he need emergency vet?

Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. I do not recommend to give any human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!

I'm sorry Paws isn't doing well at the moment! I would try offering him water. Give him a chance to drink the water, I would keep offering it to him over an hour. If he refuses to drink the water, or he drinks the water and then vomits it up, then I would take him into the ER vet. It's a pretty serious sign when a dog won't drink water or can't keep it down, and in cases like that, it's best for them to see a vet right away. Should he drink the water and keep it down, then it's fine to wait until the morning to take him into the vet. Continue to monitor him tonight, and if Paws becomes very lethargic, the shaking gets worse, he starts vomiting, or he shows any other signs of illness, then take him into an ER vet right away. He is so young that you do not want to wait long if he is ill. It is very easy for him to become dehydrated. Hello. I am sorry that Toby isn't feeling well. Shaking, not acting like themselves, and being unsettled are signs of pain and discomfort. If the shaking is the whole body, and more like tremors (uncontrolled and continuous) then this is very serious and associated with signs of a neuro-toxin. I would suggest having Toby seen by your vet, or an emergency 24 hour clinic if your vet isn't open. It could be that Toby just ate something that has upset his stomach and he is painful, however there could be something very serious going on. Either way, it sounds like Toby is in pain and at minimum requires soemthing for this. Your vet may also want to do some bloodwork or x-rays depending on what they find on their physical exam. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Stuart. It sounds like Stuart is not feeling well at all. Shaking is a nonspecific sign in dogs but could be a sign of discomfort/pain. Vomiting and lack of appetite could be signs of a problem within the GI tract, such as ingestion of foreign material or garbage, or possibly a sign of an infectious disease. It could also be a sign of a problem outside the GI tract such as liver/kidney disease or pancreatitis. As Stuart is still a young puppy with any vomiting or lack of appetite they can have a challenging time maintaining their blood sugar and temperature so I would strongly urge you to have him seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Poor Polar. The shivering could be from pain or he could have a fever. You should have him examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can run blood work if needed and then determine the best way to treat. He might need an antibiotic and/or pain medications to treat.

Poor Ozzie! That's so hard to know something's not right and not be able to pinpoint it. If Ozzie seems to be perking up after pain relief, then it sounds like he may have a sneaky source of pain. I would relay his response to meds back to your vet and see what they think, but in cases like this I usually keep the dog as rested as possible (don't let him do any activities that could worsen an injury) and continue the pain meds. Sometimes we can't localize the pain, but if meds help then I'd keep giving them. Hope he feels better soon.
