Why is my dog shaking, unbalanced, not eating, and peeing inside?

Possibilities include toxin exposure, infection, heart problems, neurologic problems, endocrine/hormone problems, kidney/liver/gallbladder disease, cancer, etc. I would advise taking Charlie to your veterinarian right away to get him assessed. Your vet can gather a history, perform an exam and then advise a diagnostic/treatment plan based on their findings. Possible tests include fecal/blood/urine tests, x-rays/ultrasound. Once a diagnosis is made a treatment plan can be implemented. Good luck with Charlie

That is very unusual. I recommend to play it safe and have George examined today. Try to record the behavior and show it to the doctor. During the examine, the doctor will look for clues to help determine the cause. George may get some bloodwork as well. Best to be safe! Please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi there! I'm so sorry to hear about George's troubles. Diarrhea can be the result a of a few things - eating something unusual or not good for dogs (dietary indiscretion), toxin ingestion, bacterial or parasitic infection, metabolic diseases, obstruction, etc. Based on George's history of having to go to the emergency hospital before for this, I wouldn't wait much longer. He may have a very sensitive gastrointestinal tract and need more intervention than other dogs when he has an issue like this. Another reason I'd have him seen is because he is shaking and lethargic. He could feel painful (maybe he swallowed or ate something strange) and need some help there too and because he's starting to become lethargic. Also, gastrointestinal illnesses can sometimes encourage pancreatitis to develop (inflammation of the pancreas) which can be painful. Also to keep in mind is that the longer diarrhea continues the more likely it is for a patient to become dehydrated, even if they're drinking. I know my answer is pretty long, but I hope it explains why George may need to be seen right away by a doctor. Again I wouldn't wait much longer based on his history. He also seems like he's uncomfortable since he's shaking, so after a few more hours, if there's jo improvement, I'd take him in. Best of luck!

I am sorry to hear that Preston isn’t feeling well. At such a young age this concerns Me about the possibility of intoxication. If there is any chance he could have ingested a prescription or recreational medication then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. I also worry about a possibility of infection such as distemper virus, or other neurologic abnormalities. Lab work and possible imaging such as x-Rays or MRI may be recommended depending on what is found on the physical examination. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Hmm. If this is happening in cycles then I would be suspicious of a potential toxicity to something she is ingesting. Perhaps even her heart worm or flea/tick preventative is to blame, especially if these episodes seem to occur around the time she is given them. This would be a very logical explanation and something I have seen in 1-2 patients of mine. Otherwise you should start looking into other possibilities such as hepatic (liver) encephalopathy or a brain malfunction. Having her examined by the vet and bloodwork analysis would be the next logical steps towards finding her diagnosis so that treatment options can be looked into to help stabilize Bellum's condition.

Hello Aim. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sorry that Cooper is not well. This is definitely not normal. Dogs do get something called vestibular disease (a king of vertigo) that can throw their balance off but it usually happens in older dogs. I have never seen it in a 4 year old dog. I would be very worried that he may have ingested something toxic. I really think you should get him examined by a vet as soon as possible.

The most common condition that causes trouble walking, falling over, head tilt and trembling is Vestibular disease. This is a problem with the balance center in either the brain or the inner ear. Possible causes are an ear infection, stroke, low thyroid, a brain tumor or if he is just old it can be idiopathic (meaning we don't know why). I have seen dogs become Vestibular and then be normal that quickly, though usually the signs can persist for up to 2 weeks. I am not sure about the relation to the food you are feeding. If he shows the symptoms again I would immediately take him to your Vet for an exam. Consider video taping it so you can show them in case it goes away quickly again.
