My dog is shaking and tired after vaccines. What can I give him?

You can see a mild fever after vaccines, and that could be the cause of Jack's shaking. Benadryl will not help with that if he has a fever. Keep an eye on him, and if the shaking continues for more than 24 hours or he develops other signs such as persistent vomiting and diarrhea, hives, swelling of the muzzle, and/or difficulty breathing, take him into a vet immediately. While this may be a reaction to the vaccines, I would not recommend that you give her Benadryl without having her physically evaluated by a veterinarian. There are scenarios where administering this medication would be contraindicated. I would highly recommend that you have Phoebe evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. My suspicion is that this is injection-site pain and not a "true" vaccine reaction, however I do know that dogs (especially small ones) can be pretty painful in the limb they were vaccinated in for up to 36 hours afterwards. I wouldn't call it "normal" but we definitely see it - both of my own small dogs were painful after their last lepto vaccine. Because they can be pretty miserable, I would recommend calling your vet and asking if they might dispense a bit of pain relief - perhaps only 2 - 3 days worth - to make sure Ted is comfortable over the weekend. And if you see other more concerning signs - swelling about the head or face, difficulty breathing, vomiting, collapse - take him right into an emergency facility.

Such a reaction to vaccinations are not completely uncommon, these usually resolve without treatment within 24 hours. if it has been more than 24 hours and she is still not herself i would advise you to contact your vet, sometimes pain killers are needed. in some more rare cases vaccination reaction can cause more long lasting issues, but this is extremely rare.

Hello, sorry to hear about Benita. She may be having an allergic reaction to the vaccine. These may be mild to severe reactions. If she continues to tremble, develops vomiting, or becomes lethargic then she should be seen by your veterinarian back immediately. No. This isn't normal. I would recommend taking his temp rectally to verify he doesn't have a fever. Then, I would give him a 1/2 of a children's benadryl ( so 6.25 MG total ). If it gets worse, or if hives, vomiting, trouble breathing occur, you would need to take him in right away.
