My dog is lethargic, trembling after vaccines. Should I give Benadryl?

If the symptom does not go away or worsens, then I would take her in to be seen if possible. Reactions are temporary and will eventually go away (either on their own or with the help of medication). Reactions can be quite severe sometimes so be on the lookout for severe facial swelling, hive development, extreme lethargy, vomiting, breathing difficulty, etc. and get her in to be seen by an emergency veterinarian as soon as possible. Otherwise, if she is normal right now with none of the above symptoms, I would just monitor her after giving the Benadryl and see how she does. I hope this helps! It could be the start of a reaction or he could simply be frightening from the process. You can try a dose of children benadryl to see if that helps Titan. If he does not calm down, stop shaking, has vomiting or dirrhoea I would advise taking him back to the vet immediately.

Plus it doesn't help with vomiting. I think the best thing is to have her seen by a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Unfortunately, by law it is illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to recommend using any human drug, including OTC drugs, without seeing the animal in person first. That's because doing so requires a veterinary client patient relationship which cannot be achieved via an internet forum. In addition, the experts cannot say for certain if a specific drug is safe for your dog. If she is shaking and feels hot, she could have a fever which Benadryl wouldn't treat anyway. I would take her temperature rectally. A dog's normal temperature is 101-102.5F, and if her temperature is above 103F, I would take her into an ER vet or a vet on call immediately. Otherwise, I would monitor her and try to tempt her to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day. Should her symptoms continue through until tomorrow, I would have her seen by a vet. If they suddenly become worse or she develops other signs like vomiting and diarrhea, I would have her seen by a vet immediately.

Poor guy. Benadryl is normally safe in pets that don’t have underlying conditions that would contraindicate it’s use. You can see a mild fever after vaccines, and that could be the cause of Jack's shaking. Benadryl will not help with that if he has a fever. Keep an eye on him, and if the shaking continues for more than 24 hours or he develops other signs such as persistent vomiting and diarrhea, hives, swelling of the muzzle, and/or difficulty breathing, take him into a vet immediately. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! The Rabies vaccine is well tolerated and comes with minimal side effects. If Frankie has never had a vaccine reaction in the past I wouldn't expect him to have one this time.
