My dog shook, chattered teeth, and foamed after a long walk. Why?

If you feel that Dexter may have had a seizure last night, I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian at their next available appointment. There are many causes of seizures including low blood sugar, liver disease such as a shunt, kidney disease, and disease within the cranium or cerebrospinal fluid. Your veterinarian can perform an exam on Dexter and best localize the problem. He/she may recommend bloodwork to help understand what may have happened to Dexter. I hope this is helpful!

There are a couple of things that cause foaming at the mouth. These include upset stomach (nausea), stress, illness, poisoning, exposure to foul-tasting substances, or dental disease. For now, I would monitor Shreder. Try to get him to drink some cool water, as he needs to stay hydrated. If he is still foaming at the mouth in the morning, I would take him into the vet to determine what is the cause of the foaming at the mouth, and how to treat it. If Shreder starts vomiting, becomes extremely lethargic, vomits water, shows difficulty breathing, or begins to have diarrhea, I would take him into your vet right away.

Well, it sounds like Blake is either sick or could potentially have a wound in his mouth. Anytime there is a dog acting abnormal with foam in the mouth it is important to know if he has been vaccinated for rabies. If not- call your veterinarian immediately. If he has been vaccinated then I would encourage you to look in his mouth with a flash light. Look under the tongue and all through the mouth for a wound. If there is no oral wound then that makes me more concerned that he is sick. In that case I think you may need to try to find a way to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible . How cute is Buddy! It is possible that Buddy may have came in to contact with a bug, frog/toad, or some foreign material in his mouth while he was sniffing underneath the bush that caused him to foam at the mouth. Some frogs or bugs will release an irritating substance when they feel threatened by a predator; this can cause excessive salivation and "foaming" if it comes in to contact with the mouth. Typically these are harmless, but there are some toxic toads (i.e. Bufo toad)depending on your location. There is the potential that Buddy could have been stung by an insect that caused these signs, too. Since Buddy was back to normal by the time you arrived home, I would suspect it was harmless. I would just keep a close eye on Buddy when he is nosing around the bushes again.

Nausea and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Lily evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start her on medications to make her feel better and check her hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. Oh dear! This sounds extremely serious - your dog may be having a seizure, or may have a serious illness or ingested something toxic. I'm afraid there is really nothing you can do at home for a problem this serious, so the best advice I can give you is to take your dog to the nearest veterinarian immediately. I would be concerned that he may die without immediate veterinary care.

Hello, thank you for your question about Choco. The foaming that you are observing could be secondary to excessive salivation or eating fast. It is also possible that his teeth are causing him discomfort and leading to the foam that you are noticing. If he is otherwise acting normally I would recommend continuing to monitor this problem. If at any point he develops any other symptoms such as inappetance or vomiting I would recommend having him evaluated by your veterinarian. Hope this helps!
