Why is my dog shaking, scared, ears down, and avoiding a room?

Tucking the tail and running are normally signs of fear in dogs - it sounds like something may have frightened her. She could also be in pain or not feeling well for some reason. If she doesn't begin to act more normal over the next few hours and you don't see any reason that she would be afraid, I would recommend having her examined by a vet to check for a medical problem causing her to act this way.

It sounds like he is having some anxiety. If there is anything that has recently changed or any loud noises like a storm or construction, this could explain why he is so anxious. I would just try to give him a little extra TLC to see if this helps. If this continues, I would have your vet take a look at him to ensure he isn't in pain somewhere. I have seen dogs do this with back/neck pain as well. If your vet thinks it is anxiety, they can prescribe him an anti-anxiety medicine to help. I hope this helps.

Hi, sorry you are having this problem with Chiquita. Sometimes dogs exhibiting this behavior are in some kind of pain. the not eating is concerning that she may have a health issue as well. I would take her to the vet and have a check up to make sure nothing is wrong with her, If she is healthy, you can try using treats to coax her out of your room. It is possible something happened to her that scared her or caused her pain and it will take some time for her to get over it. Be gentle and patient and go slow with her to show her that there is nothing to be afraid of. If you bring her food to her and she won't eat, she will need to see a vet. Good luck, I hope this help!

If only Jessie could talk! This type of behavior could be related to something like anxiety or to pain/discomfort. I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian who will check for evidence of pain on the physical exam. They may also check a urine sample or the anal glands as well. Since she can't talk, it's best to play it safe. If this is behavioral, try taking her for a walk or a play a game to distract her. Best of luck.

Poor Bow. These symptoms suggest that she either has anxiety from something that scared her or she is having a sudden pain response from somewhere in her body. If the panting episode is continuous and seems labored, she has dulled responses, +/- white or pale gums, or if she seems to be in pain, then I would rush her to the ER vet to have her looked over. However if she is alert, has a normal mentation (aware of her surroundings), panting and shaking are intermittent and not continuous, and if she slowly improves over the next hour as you try to slowly coax her out of her hiding spot, then I would wait it to until morning. Especially if she has a history of anxiety or a recent event (i.e. Thunderstorms, guests over, loud noises, etc) can be seen as a possible cause for her current state. I recommend thinking about what changes have happened in the last couple of days. Have you moved any furniture, replaced lightbulbs, or plugged in any new appliances? Poor Grace! If you can't find an obvious cause for anxiety, it's best to have her checked out for pain as pain can make pets behavior this way as well. Pain can be in many forms including back pain, pain from the pancreas or bladder pain. Since she can't talk and tell you why she is acting this way, it's best to play it safe. Try to keep her quiet and keep the house quiet and non-stimulating and pay close attention to her eating/drinking/bathroom habits until you get her in for her exam.
