Why is my dog shaking and rubbing after K9 Advantix II flea treatment?

If you’re noticing increased itching in that area and you found a flea, you may try switching the flea prevention to see if that helps. Fleas can become immune to products. The top products on the market are oral products such as Nexgard and Simparica. Most pets can use these products but you should talk with your veterinarian before switching. He may have an adverse skin reaction to the Advantix. This happens sometime and should subside within a few days. You should really apply the spot-on onto the skin between the shoulder blades after parting the hair. The skin is less sensitive there (thicker), Should the spot where you applied it get raw, you need to have it examined by your veterinarian.

Usually that skin sensitivity is transient and isolated to where you applied the advantix. As long as he is otherwise acting normally, eating and drinking. I think it's safe to wait another day. If he is depressed, not eating or has lesions on his skin like scabs or scratches you should take him into a vet.

If there are a lot of fleas in the environment, this could also be a reason that you are still seeing some - in this case, you may need to treat your house and yard for fleas or have an exterminator do this professionally to make sure they are gone.

You are correct Stuart is showing signs of side effects from Advantix, which can last a bit. Once the product has been absorbed by the skin, you have to wait for the active ingredient to be eliminated from the body before the side effects stop. That's not to say that nothing can be done, and I do recommend taking him into the vet as he sounds uncomfortable. There may be medication the vet can prescribe to help with his itchiness. The medication will ideally dry for 12 hours. It's pretty close so likely the medication will work fine. Be checking Booker (especially around his tail and groin area) to be sure. Don't reapply medication with out a vet's ok. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
