My dog is shaking, hiding, and not eating after a recent food change?

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Oh I am sorry to hear Fido is not feeling well today. He is very cute! There are a wide variety of health problems that can cause shaking/crying and decreased appetite. Pain or discomfort from a number of health problems could cause the shaking and crying. Decreased appetite may be due to pain or can be due to nausea from any number of health issues such as orthopedic conditions, organ dysfunction, infections, autoimmune diseases, toxins, or certain types of cancers. Due to the variety of possibilities in this case, I would highly recommend Fido be seen by his veterinarian right away for an evaluation. He may need blood work and/or x-rays to help determine a cause so he can get appropriately treated. I hope this helps and best of luck to you and Fido!

This is a quite generic but concerning sign. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. None of the ingredients you mentioned are toxic. Unfortunately a check up is required to determine more specifically underlying cause and treat appropriately. Poor Niko! I am not sure if he is still having problems but it sounds like he could be experiencing some pain. He could have back/neck pain or possibly dental disease and pain while eating. Have your vet examine him to determine the cause and treat. He may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to help. Hope he is feeling better soon!

That does sound like Brownie is nervous about something. If this is a new, sudden behavior change, I would have him examined by your vet ASAP. Sometimes, underlying illnesses or pain can cause a dog to change their behavior, and if he reacts in pain when touched in a certain spot this may be the case. If he checks out healthy, looking for other triggers that could be causing stress such as new people or pets in the home, changes to routine, etc, may help you figure out the cause so you can work on helping him feel better.

Rapid changes in food can cause intestinal issues, but these are typically diarrhea/vomiting. I recommend having Luke seen by a vet as soon as possible if you think that he is not being himself. I would worry that the shaking could be a sign of pain - sometimes neck, back or abdominal pain can cause symptoms like this. Shaking can also be a sign of a fever. I’d recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam. I doubt the Seresto collar is related.

It sounds like he is having some anxiety. If there is anything that has recently changed or any loud noises like a storm or construction, this could explain why he is so anxious. I would just try to give him a little extra TLC to see if this helps. If this continues, I would have your vet take a look at him to ensure he isn't in pain somewhere. I have seen dogs do this with back/neck pain as well. If your vet thinks it is anxiety, they can prescribe him an anti-anxiety medicine to help. I hope this helps.
