My dog is shaking head & panting after Panalog ear drops. What to do?

If this is the case and his presumed ear infection responds to the ear drops then the expectation is that these signs you describe will improve. I wonder if he is having a reaction to the medication? It Shouldn’t bother him, and if it does I’m worried. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian soon. He may be having a lot of pain when he wakes up doing this. If he hasn't yet been to a vet he needs to be seen as soon as possible. If the pain makes him shake his head, he could shake it too hard and break a blood vessel in his ear and cause a hematoma which needs surgery to correct. Plus, ear infections hurt, and he needs relief as soon as possible. Your vet will do an exam, labwork and will probably prescribe antibiotics and drops for the ears.

If Jackie is still uncomfortable, I recommend calling back the veterinarian that treated him to discuss. Be sure not to give medications more frequently than prescribed, if two dose given less than 4 hours apart that may be too frequent. Some pain medications may cause restlessness, so it's important to discuss with his veterinarian to rule out other illness or medication side effect. I hope Jackie is better soon.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Some of the symptoms you mention can certainly come from either the prednisone, or the mometamax. She may be reacting to the additional steroid in the ear medication. Usually this gets better in a day or so, & fortunately, this will be at the time you begin decreasing the oral dose. Continue the oral pred. as prescribed by your veterinarian, but do not put anything else in her ear until you have a chance to talk to your vet. It is always best to be a little cautious when putting anything into the ears. I hope Nancy is feeling better very soon. Take care.

She might also be suffering from either allergies or anal gland problems, you should ask the vet to take a look at that as well.
